DICKTracy wrote:Hi, I created a post asking about getting perfect 1:4 upscaling on a monitor and was recommended to put the question in this thread, hopefully you might be able to provide some insight :)

Here is the question:
Essentially I'm planning to get the ASUS ROG SWIFT when it comes out (unless someone else comes out with something better around the same time, but I don't see that happening). I was thinking about trying to game at 720p on it because of the perfect 1:4 pixel mapping. However, I managed to to get a hold of a 1440p monitor and try running CS:GO at 720p on it, but it didn't look nearly as crisp as I thought it would look, in fact it seemed noticeably blurry. I figured that the resolution wasn't getting scaled as I thought it would by the monitor (apple 27 inch in work).

I was wondering if there has been any word as to whether the SWIFT will have any such feature quite common for gamers to do this in online gaming, and the fact that the SWIFT is geared at gamers (ROG)...

Or does anyone know of any monitors that currently perform this perfect 1:4 scaling?

As we approach launch of the monitor and have final performance for the scaler and firmware implementation we will definitely provide this type of information so users who care about driving non native resolutions have an understanding of the performance and functionality of the monitor under those different operating parameters. Stay tuned!

KILLI wrote:Hoping that the posts will get read by Asus someday, my wishes for an ideal (LCD-based) gaming monitor would be as follows:

* Deep blacks - there is no way around VA-panels
* High contrast ration - again, this only leaves VA-panels
* Rich colours - guess what: VA panel
* Techniques against motion blur (backlight strobing)
* Think of people not playing first-person-shooters for their living! Think of people wanting to enjoy interactive-movie-style games like Crysis with the best quality possible!

Keep selling your ultra-mega-hyper-fast TN-panels, if you wish up to 65" and over. But think of gamers wanting to enjoy their games when played late at night, in darkened rooms, with deep blacks, rich colours, little motion blur and with acceptable input latency.
For a lot of people it does not matter whether a monitor has 3, 5, or 8ms latency, once the picture quality does render them speechless.
Only a minority out there are pro-gamers who absolutely need the fastest of the fast because they have to earn their living. Not everyone needs a racing car that makes 0-60 in 2 seconds but can only accomodate 1-2 persons without luggage and only over the next 100 miles before needing to refuel and passengers in urgent need for a break because their intervertebral discs are squeezed together as a result of the "performance suspension".
So please (also) do an Aston Martin, in addition to the already available Lotus. I hope you get the analogy... ;)

Please feel free to quote me! Spread the word if you have the same opinion on the current monitor situation. Someday, we will be heard and can finally abandon our CRTs...

Thanks!
I thank you for your feedback as always it is appreciated. We are looking at all panels types as options as it is important to not get stuck on a specific panel being a requirement but more so the experience. In the end whether it is refresh rate and response, color accuracy, viewing angles or any other aspects of a monitors experience whether a panel is VA, TN, IPS, PLS or xx other choice what we are looking for is being able to provide the experience our users are asking us for. There will always be the reality that not every user sees value in all monitors produced as different users have different expectations and preferences. Some users who use IPS will swear off any but and make an assumption that regardless a TN may not offer a comparable experience even though there are multiple factors that influence the displays experience. As such we will continue to look at the response from our users and the community to do our best to align product development with the end experience our users are looking to have regardless of what panel or underlying technology is utilized.

This is something we are internally discussing trying to find the best way to provide this type of information once we have finalize the MP version of the monitor. It may best be handled by reviewers but few sites offer the depth of evaluation like BlurBusters and few others in providing this type of real world experience information. Stay tuned as we get ready to release the SWIFT we will work on trying to find the the most relevant questions like these and see how we best provide a quality / insightful responses.

Hey there ASUSTECHMKT,

I'm about to buy a BenQ 2720Z solely because of its ability to do 60fps@60Hz strobing (with the V2 firmware and BlurBusters tool etc etc.)
It's a shame because the Swift looks better along pretty much every other dimension.

Is there any chance that Asus might allow 60fps strobing to be "unlockable" like BenQ have? I'd very likely wait if so.

Cheers!

+1 Amalion and DICKTracy

add me to user wish list expecting this, 60fps@60Hz strobing feature on even non native resolutions to achieve the same crt motion and picture clarity and sharpnesss. (i know its been discused and at the moment does not seem to be posible, but i dont want to lose my faith it will be posible some day).

Any chance to win some ROG monitors in some contests when they come out? I'd suggest sending a few units to Blurbusters :P (1 for review of course and other for a draw :P)

While it would be nice, I don't think that BlurBusters represents enough of the target demographic for ASUS to give them a ROG SWIFT to give away. Might be a bit more likely to happen at CUSTOMPC or OCN

I'm pretty sure they will send one review unit though at the very least.

Oh yeah, I was just talking about the give away part. Sorry for not clarifying that properly.
