Help with new monitor. XL2546s, Acer XN253QX...or something else

Post by ChrisB » 30 Apr 2020, 01:34

Hello, first post after lurking for a while now.
I would appreciate some help. I want to get a new monitor soon. Currently I use a Benq XL2411. It serves me well for gaming and web browsing. But mostly gaming.
I think its time for an upgrade. Im looking for a 240 hz, 24.5 inch panel, with the latest and greatest tech so i wont have to upgrade for a while. Newest panel, low input lag, low refresh rate, etc.

I had narrowed it down to the Acer XN253QX. But I want to know if I should just wait for the new Benq XL2546s. Even other monitor suggestions are welcome. The Omen X 25 seems like a good choice too but i believe it uses an older panel than my 2 main choices.

My PC is decent. GTX 1080, i7, 16gb ram,. Will upgrade to a 3080 card once they come out in the future.
I will mostly use this monitor for gaming and occasional web browsing. I wont be using it for movies except for youtube videos and such.
I play games like Overwatch, CS:GO, Apex, Diablo, so mostly FPS games.

So basically I want an upgrade to my XL2411 that would give me better everything compared to that monitor.
Thanks.

Thanks but I'm in the US and pricing is a bit different.
Also I noticed that on another thread you said that the dyac tech in the Benq's causes eye strain. Is this true?
Because I was pretty much set on buying the XL2546s once it is available. But if eye strain is an issue after prolonged use then that will certainly affect my decision.

That's just me being sensitive to it, most people are fine. On the other hand, it causes slight additional input lag, so I wouldn't want that anyways. Really depends if the motion clarity increase is noticeable to you - kind of a trade off.

Hmmm, interesting. This complicates my decision.
Don't know if I should continue to wait till the XL2546s is released, I'm in no rush btw but I do want a 240hz monitor soon. Might just get an Acer XN253QX for $500 new , or for $400 refurbished from Acer. Also the Omen X 25 in the US is fluctuating between $550 and $450 withing the last month.
I'm really set on a 25-in 240 hz TN panel monitor though. So the best one with the best performance is what I want.

Which will give me the best performance with no motion blur reductiont on? Because I know that in the non-BenQ monitors, the screens darken substantially when you have motion blur reduction on. So I'm going to most likely play with that option off 100% of the time because of how my room is lighted.

I never used the blur reduction on my XL2411 because it was just too dark.

The XN253QX only has strobing at half refresh rate if I'm not mistaken (120Hz).
I was also talking about the Omen X 25f, which is the non G-Sync version (but still G-Sync compatible) - should be significantly cheaper.

Waiting for the XL2546S is a good idea, but it will be expensive, compared to the Omen X 25f or the XF2 XF252QX - and if you won't use the BFI feature, it's kind of not worth it in my opinion, it would really have to out perform all the others with lower input lag/response times.
Right now you could grab the XL2546 (non S), however it's kind of the same deal with that one. Apart from that, I only found the XL2540 available on amazon.com, but that's not the only store out there ofc, was just shocked that amazon doesn't have 80% of the monitors recommended in this forum in the US.

If you're not in a rush, just wait for the XL2546S and for someone to release detailed stats. :)
