Today I got the MSTAR ISP device and I decided to upgrade the firmware of my XL2411Z to be able to use the strobe utility. Unfortunately after following the steps from the Chiefs post my monitor just shut down and became unresponsive (to be more exact after the 14th step from the guide). Since then I haven't been able to see even the power led. Is there any way to reset the firmware to V1?

Did it show a PASS when it finished?vrtx wrote:Today I got the MSTAR ISP device and I decided to upgrade the firmware of my XL2411Z to be able to use the strobe utility. Can you do the following:
1. Unplug the monitor for 10 seconds.
2. Plug in the monitor again, but don't connect the computer.
3. Plug the MSTAR ISP (via VGA)
4. Repeat the firmware install steps again.

Re: Benq XL2411Z v2 firmware upgrade failed.
Thank you for replying so quick. No, it did not show the pass, just after the blanking part it went completely dead. I am going to try now what you wrote in your post and see if it works. I suspect it doesn't matter if the monitor is still connected via DVI.
L.E. No change whatsoever
The monitor just doesn't want to power up again.

To be safe, keep nothing connected on DVI and DisplayPort when you redo the upgrade.vrtx wrote:I suspect it doesn't matter if the monitor is still connected via DVI.
(Note -- I am away for part of the day -- responses may be slow, but will do my best)
If this does not work, I will send a message to BENQ engineering to find out the cause of this, since hundreds have successfully upgraded.

Nope, nothing is working so far. I have tried doing everything i could think of with no effect.
Re: Benq XL2411Z v2 firmware upgrade failed.
same here, but the update passed
edit: update worked and monitor is alive, downloaded the fw again, unpacked and read from usb stick.
not shure, what the issue was

Re: Benq XL2411Z v2 firmware upgrade failed.
happy for you buddy, I hope there is an easy fix for me too. Maybe I didn't wait as long as I was supposed to after the upgrade? really can't tell.
Re: Benq XL2411Z v2 firmware upgrade failed.
OK, so I managed to solve the issues with my monitor. It seems that the firmware upgrade didn't go as planned the first time...I managed to get another monitor, hook it up to my pc and run the firmware upgrade again. This time it worked flawlessly and I am now the proud owner of a 2411z V2 monitor
So, when you decide to do this upgrade it might be handy to have an old/spare monitor in case things don't go as planned. Thank you for all the help Mark.

Excellent, glad this was solved.lebowsky wrote:same here, but the update passed

It may have simply been a single bit flipped somehow -- storage-wise or transfer-wise (bad cable), etc.

Excellent, glad it resurrected for you too!vrtx wrote:OK, so I managed to solve the issues with my monitor. For other readers who may come across this thread:
-- Repeating the process after a complete unplug (yank all cables, wait a bit) sometimes helps; it totally resets the monitor state for a cleaner repeat attempt.
-- Also, starting the upgrade while the monitor in standby mode, is also more reliable.
Yes, you're right. A spare monitor can be handy!vrtx wrote:So, when you decide to do this upgrade it might be handy to have an old/spare monitor in case things don't go as planned. Thank you for all the help Mark.
These firmware upgrade failures can be quite scary -- it's always a risk of bricking. It happens to everything that is firmware upgraded (even apple iPhones can go dead during a failed iOS upgrade). Hundreds have now upgraded their Z-Series, and there's bound to be an occasional failure.
Glad all is solved!
