Have you considered testing any of the new 240hz VA panels? There's an MSI model which looks promising and there aren't any reviews on it yet. Black smear is expected for sure but I wonder if it's capable of keeping the main part of the UFO image clear. It strikes me on the TN v IPS image you post here that you can vaguely see the pupil's in the alien's eyes on the TN where the IPS seems to miss that single-pixel detail despite the shape being basically the same clarity.RLCScontender wrote: ↑16 May 2020, 13:30I actually didn't purchase any TN monitors when i did these experiments.
Ben Q i'm fairly sure it's 80% g2g is only 0.4-0.5 quicker than the fastest IPS monitor MSI. The two fastest TN right now is the nitro xv252 and the Omen x25 which clocked at aroughly 2.1ms(according to rtings) and the MSI and alienware is 3ms(at least that's what i got on my oscilloscope readings.
So the fastest TN is still definitely ahead of the fastest 240hz IPS monitors by a decent margin of 0.9ms (or 1ms). This can be seen on the UFO ghosting tests.
i'm guessing, the predator TN is 2.2-2.4ms which is still faster than 3ms MSI

i'm not really interested in VAs so it's not in my train of thought to ever buy one at this moment.
When i buy a monitor, i usually buy it for competitive gaming and VAs aren't exactly the best monitor for the job. Yes, the newer VAs are 200hz, 240hz, curved, etc. but what good are those refresh rates when the monitor is too slow to comply with the refresh rate in the first place. Instead of inverse ghosting, you will see pixel smearing/ghosting(dark trails/artifacts).
VA has its uses such as slower games like tomb raider or RPGs and watching movies. . then again, i prefer to watch movies on my IPS since the colors are more accurate. TBH, i would rather buy a TN than a VA. I just cannot stand motion blur and distracting artifacts, that's why i'm on this website.
TFT recently reviewed a 240hz VA monitor, anda s expected, 10ms response times and a lot of pixel smearing.

How is the g-sync compatible works on MSI MAG251RX?
I mean - any input lag? I heard there is no lag on any monitor, if the fps doesn't go above refresh rate.

Hey RLCScontender, sweet thread, this has helped me narrow down my choices. Now I just need someone to tell me what to get
I have a XL2546 on backorder, but I am second guessing with the new IPS panels out and the price differences. I will be playing mainly fps (apex, valorant, mw, paladins, destiny2) and some content on the side with a 3700x, and 2080. Should I keep my order or or cancel to save money and go IPS (MAG251RX, VG259QM, or other suggestion)? I haven't had a fast monitor before, so not sure if I will feel ~1ms of input lag difference between models. Can you please help me?

Yo sick thread, really informative. I have a question though. I have a XL2546 on backorder, I will be gaming fps monstly (apex, valorant, paladins, destiny2, mw) and some content creation on the side. Should I cancel my order and go for the MAG251rx or the VQ259QM (or another suggestion)? I'm running a 3700x and 2080 and will alter settings to get over 220fps depending on the game. I don't mind the rough 1ms delay on the models, probably not noticeable to my eye, but what I do care about is clarity when moving fast.

Of course there's input lag. Whether you cap the FPS to 237 doesn't matter.
And also, you don't get the reduced input lag benefits of the FPS exceed the refresh rate
i always turn g-sync compatible(fake g-sync) OFF. Screen tearing at high FPS dissipates very quickly, and to me, i don't really notice it on a 240hz monitor like the MSI. The only time I notice screen tearing was when i had a 60hz monitor and the FPS was 250hz, so any movement of my camera showed tearing(which also causes blur because i'm not able to distinguish what is what when the screen tears(or when i move my camera). I stopped seeing it when I upgraded to a 144hz monitor, on a 240hz monitor i don't see the point of adaptive sync.
THe input lag in my opinion is more noticeable than screen tearing. Not to mention, capping the FPS doesnt' really benefit you competitively compared to if you left it uncapped due to reduced input lag.
One thing i will say, that 360hz IPS monitor, i will defnitely leave G-sync ON.

also Forii, are you getting this issue with your MSI? It's identifying my MSI as Microstep MSI MAG252rx and it says "selected display is not validated as g-sync compatible". I checked Nvidia website and clearly, the MSI MAG251rx is on that list of g-sync compatibility.

if anyone can help me out or elaborate why my MSI MAG251rx isn't being identified as a certified g-sync compatible monitor despite the nvidia website saying otherwise.
I've updated the Nvidia graphics driver and i don't see any changes.

content creation on a TN? u w0tt? Linus tech tips measured the benq among the least color accurate monitors(they tested a benq monitor relative to IPS and the inaccuracy was off the charts)gmgp17 wrote: ↑17 May 2020, 12:42Yo sick thread, really informative. i also don't recommend content creation on the MSI because it has nothing to clamp its gamut(no srgb mode). The saturation can range from 108% to 125% and the average is around 118%.
There are 99% SRGB profiles on the MSi website though (i have it just in case i want to revert top srgb(according to the ICC profile off the MSI website). If you want a mixture of content creation yet you want fast response times, the LG 27gl850-b is a decent option. it has SRGB mode and it's among the better srgb modes uot there, on top of a 4.4ms response time. Unfortunately it's only a 144hz monitor. for 240hz monitors, i can't think of any monitor that has an SRGB mode outside of the Asus vg279qm/vg259qm; however, it's really not great and i don't recommend it for content creation.
if i were u, i would just gamble and get the MSI, download the ICC SRGB profile on the MSI website, and HOPE their icc profile provides 99% srgb accuracy. Otherwise, the MSI is mainly used for gaming(as with majority of 240hz monitors)

Thanks, I realized my mistake after doing more research on the TNs. However, I will be looking at a larger IPS ultrawide to move my editing to down the line. Would that change your recommendation?RLCScontender wrote: ↑17 May 2020, 14:10content creation on a TN? u w0tt? UW are expensive but yeah, those are generally better for photoediting and content creation. I had the 34gk850f-b w/ nano 98% dci p3 133% srgb, and it was excellent. it was just way too slow to play rocket league and the motion blur annoyed me.
be mindful that UWs require a stronger GPU since most good ones are 3460x1440p i believe
