Should I get a 144hz or a 240hz monitor?

I am looking to purchase my first high refresh monitor for competitive gaming and I know that 240hz is obviously more superior but here is some background first.

This is my current pc: ryzen 5 3600 & rx 570. I am going to upgrade my gpu in the future to a 2060 probably (in around 2-3 months) but before that I wanted to upgrade my monitor to experience high refresh rates, I currently play on a 75hz monitor. I mainly play fortnite and valorant so I did a benchmark by playing 3 games on both of those games on my current setup to see what kind of fps I get (both games capped at 240)

In Fortnite I got an average frame rate of ~200 and 140 minimum.
In Valorant I also had ~200 fps on average and 110 minimum for some reason.

The reason I am not 100% sure to get a 240hz monitor is that I have heard that playing on lower than 240 fps on a 240hz monitor can cause bad ghosting/overshooting. I also watch competitive fortnite and I have never heard of the pros complaining about this when they get 100-130 fps in end games while playing on 240hz monitors. I would love to hear your guys' input and suggestions on what I should do.

Maybe there are 240hz monitors that I am not aware of that perform well at lower framerates so please let me know if that is the case. However, Chief did say that monitors with the gsync module have variable overdrive which would fix this issue that I am worried about but I don't know if that (variable overdrive) only works when gsync is active or if it can be activated on fixed 240hz to avoid overshooting at lower frame rates without gsync.

There are many 240Hz monitors where 144fps at 240Hz looks similar to an average 144Hz monitors doing 144fps.

The Blur Busters audience is a bit more critical about ghosting/corona artifacts.

If you are very concerned about this, you can get a native G-SYNC monitor (NVIDIA chipped) as that has more consistency with ghosting/coronas at all Hz. Also, G-SYNC Compatible will usually have less ghosting/coronas during VRR than generic uncertified Adaptive Sync.

The cause is because overdrive is often tuned for a specific Hz, and can cause overdrive to look different at different Hz (different framerates, since framerates and Hz are the same thing during VRR operation within VRR range)

So you're saying that there are some gsync compatible monitors that will have overshoot at fps under 240fps but they won't be that noticable unless you are very sensitive or them or specifically looking for them? If so, is there anywhere specific you suggest to look to find monitors like these like reviewers who test this or can you list some 240hz gsync compatible monitor models that are known to not have this issue as bad?

I was starting to consider one of the new IPS 240Hz, but that makes me doubt as i think i'll be arround 100fps (more or less depending on the games).

Maybe a 144Hz monitor would be better futureproof.

I see the Benq Zowie XL2411P is still very popular nowdays, and i wonder why, because it does not have Freesync or Gsync, and checking rtings its strobing seems not the best ( xl2411p compared to an ASUS VG248QE).
So why so popular? People don't seem to complain about tearing, maybe, somehow, it works better than others even without sync technologies? The only thing i've found (on a video comparing both monitors) is that it is easier to see on the 2411p (contrast, brightness? no idea)...
