Post by shuffle » 25 May 2020, 13:40

hello

so my benq shows has non pnp display monitor, i alrdy used a custom edid in windows to get full resolution and frequency even though it only works in windows. i want to fix this so i installed linux and used edid-rw and it show me which sector was bad, it seems its only changing 0*29 for 0*d6 but it wont change cause the monitor is protected.

it shows Checksum is bad 0*29 should be 0*d6

anyone knows which pin i need to break? :D

Moving to BenQ Forum for better response.

My recommendation is to do a Factory Reset on the monitor menus, and see if that fixes the EDID.

Failing that, try to reinstall a firmware upgrade.

ty ofr the replay, i emailed Benq and the first time they send me the EDID for all ports but now that im on Ubuntu i can flash it but it aint working cause the monitor is protected. I ask them if there is something i can do to flash it and they refuse so im on my own.

I can read the data: but cant flash it, this EDID-RW fixes the checksum automatically but either the DVI-D port is connected or the monitor is protected.

Can't you simply do an EDID override on the Linux side? For Linux, it's called "modelines"

You don't need to flash the EDID if you override instead.

The numbers are very easy to convert into Linux / X modeline strings for lines starting with "Mode".

There are also web-based modeline calculators if you google "modeline calculator" too, which you might find one compatible.

You can also write down the numbers from Windows, and convert them into Linux modelines for all kinds of graphics drivers.

With modelines, you can bypass and override the hardware EDID built into the monitor.

That way, you can get things working without flashing the EDID.

Ty for the reply, the monitor doesn't work in bios or windows, it works only when i install amd drivers and then its all grey out, cant change res etc. Once i EDID override i get my monitor back, all resolutions and 144hz.

I need to update drivers? back to edid override and now windows has signature protection more work to do. i just want my monitor to work.

If the EDID is damaged and cannot be modified, this is a warranty claim. If the monitor is out of warranty, I'm not sure what the solution is. I'll have to see if different users are able to advise you.

It also pre-dates the XL2411Z (where there is a DIY Firmware Upgarde), so reinstalling a firmware upgrade may not even work.

I manage to flash the edid, funny story, power went off in my house cause of storm and then next day DVI port was working, it seems i had to turn off the power from the monitor after flashing.

Benq xl2411t has no eprom protection, you can flash it ez with edid-rw
