Re: ViewSonic Now Shipping XG2431 as of NOW!!! [Blur Busters Approved XG2431 - 24" 240Hz IPS]
I'm guessing even within the same model, there's variations on the upper limit on the vertical total? The most I could get was 4397 before it'd be out of range. It looks pretty perfect at 4350 already and I'm not sure if there's an upper limit on benefit for VT or not.
Thanks for working on this monitor BTW, I've been following for months and actually ordered it from the viewsonic website the night before they announced it was released lol. The 60hz strobe is a game changer, I'm glad I waited.

The best instructions for QFT (large VT) to follow is:
HOWTO: Quick Frame Transport (QFT) - Large Vertical Totals (reduce lag, reduce crosstalk)
With these instructions in proper sequence, I've been able to achieve VT's about 4500 at 60Hz. The name of the "guaranteed-to-work" QFT game is to keep the pixel clock number exactly the same number as before. In other words, get your scanrate and pixel clock as high as possible first at 240 Hz, then modify the 240 Hz mode to a large-VT 60 Hz mode.
Long term, monitor manufacturers will probably eventually have a "Quick Frame Transport: ON/OFF" setting that switches between sets of EDIDs. This will make QFT finally plug-and-play. Just like my 60 Hz single strobe initiative, I'll be prodding some manufacturers towards adding QFT support in-OSD.

Does the XG2431 perform better on consoles than the AW2521H 360Hz? I saw the input lag on the AW2521H is pretty good compared to most higher refresh rates monitors, but I've also seen comments the XG2431 is great for consoles too.

Hey man, how's the brightness on it when strobing? I think Chief said it's a little over 200 nits on the "light" setting, so I'm guessing it's even lower than that on I suppose more extreme settings. Not entirely sure how dim that is but DyAc+ gets like 380 nits so it's quite higher than the Viewsonic and if I have to be in a dark-ish room to use this feature comfortably then it might not be of use for me. Also, if possible and you feel like it, both a strobed and non-strobed video pursuit of https://www.testufo.com/ghosting would be much much appreciated.Chilicrunch wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 12:55I'm guessing even within the same model, there's variations on the upper limit on the vertical total? I've been trying with the guides for hours the past few days without success. I've been able to get a display at 4500 VT with a very specific trial and error setting, but the monitor flicks on and off constantly so it's usable. So 4397VT is the highest I can get out of my unit, so I can only assume there's some variance between units since another user, Gamma? Was able to do 4525VT, but their settings completely black screened mine. I can't imagine there's a big difference between a 4397VT and a 4500VT though?
I'm not really familiar with how it all works, and I would've assumed that, keeping all things the same aside from the VT, a working 240hz setting would translate to a working 60hz setting with everything the same except the VT, but I guess not.
@Michaelcycle00
Brightness is about what you'd expect I guess. It's probably not as bright as DyAC+, but it really depends on your threshold for blur, since you can adjust the pulse width as much or as little as you like.

Interesting observation -- thanks for the data point. You may wish to post the stable-VT screenshot that you got.Chilicrunch wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 18:45I've been trying with the guides for hours the past few days without success. That's something i wish more monitor reviews would touch on. Seems were lucky if they test the strobing feature at all.michaelcycle00 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 17:27

I can't link images but I can type out my settings: 60hz, 1080pChief Blur Buster wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 20:23Interesting observation -- thanks for the data point. Active Pixels: 1920, 1080
Front porch (pixels): 23, 57
Sync width (pixels): 32, 8
total pixels: 2030, 4397
Refresh rate: 263.82Khz, Pixel clock: 535.5546 MHz
Interestingly to me, is that in CRU, it says the range limits are : 48-240Hz, 255-255kHz, 600Mhz
I assume this means the display hz, not sure what the middle range is, and pixel clock.
I think the setting I was able to get 4500 VT out of had a pixel clock of 578Mhz I think? any more and black screen, any less, black screen. Same with VT, 1 higher or lower, black screen, but the exact settings gave me a picture that would blink on and off from between every second to maybe a whole minute.
Blur reduction quality wasn't noticeably different, so unless it's somehow easier or better to have marginally higher VT for Scanline Sync, I don't think I'll mess with this any more.
There are times where I do feel motion is smoother than others though, but the frame pacing graphs don't show any reason as to why, so maybe it's just how my eyes are following the motion itself.

Been scrolling this thread can't see any UFO test results. Am I missing them? Finally building my PC soon have to decide on a monitor.
Re: ViewSonic Now Shipping XG2431 as of NOW!!! [Blur Busters Approved XG2431 - 24" 240Hz IPS]
Just tried using ToastyX and the strobe utility to tune my XG2431. I think the HOWTO guide for QFT should mention that you need to disable FreeSync beforehand, I didn't think to disable it and I kept having to reboot into safe mode until I figured it out. I saw a bug in the strobe utility where it always played at 60fps so I couldn't set pulse phase and gain accurately for 144Hz, 180Hz, and 240Hz.
EDIT: the bug disappeared, no idea why. I had tried restarting the program and my computer before with no luck. I was able to get the rest of the results.
Here are some ToastyX screenshots of the highest VTs I could set.
60hz, VT 4385
width: 10
phase: 86
gain: 4
120hz, VT 2272
width: 10
phase: 0
gain: 12
144hz, VT 1893
width: 10
phase: 0
gain: 24
(had trouble attaching more than 3 images, decided to skip this one)
180Hz, VT 1514
width: 10
phase: 14
gain: 32
240Hz, VT 1160
width: 10
phase: 30
gain: 32
(default VT and EDID, could not set higher)
