Question for 240Hz+ IPS in games like apex

Post by Deyet » 30 Aug 2021, 06:44

Hello,

For weeks I have been trying to find a good monitor, these are my candidates:

- MSI MAG 251RX
- ASUS VG259QM
- Alienware AW2521HF
- ViewSonic XG2431 (it's not released yet but could be an option)

I play competitive games like: Apex legends, valorant, koovak (mostly apex than the others, so I would like to prioritize a monitor for this game)

Setup: i5-9400f and 1660 super, yes, I know that it is not the best for 240hz but in games like csgo / valorant it goes above 240fps so I have no problem with that, on the other side, in apex I get 100-190 fps with the lowest settings.

My question is: will I have problems with some of these monitors if I don't reach 240fps in apex? will I have higher inputlag / overshoot? I understand that the vg259qm reaches 1.9ms with a minimum overshoot only at 280hz but I don't know if it will apply to someone who plays with low fps.

BTW sorry for my english, it's not a native language for me

I'd recommend you to look into 1440p 144hz+ instead, as the higher resolution benefits BR games like Apex a lot.

Take a look at this spreadsheet made by r/Monitors for some good recommendations.
And no, don't worry about not hitting the refresh rate target, higher refresh rate has benefits even if you don't hit it.
