Help in deciding what to buy.
Help in deciding what to buy.
Hello all, currently trying to decide which monitor to buy.
Looking for preferably a 144-240hz monitor, at 1080p. I play competitively a lot, more than anything, but I still do like to play story mode games here and there.
I currently have a Viewsonic XG2405, its a 144Hz 1080p IPS monitor, and it has god awful response times, its basically the same panda panel as the one in the older 24G2 and idk how reviewers can say its good. pic for reference: https://www.techporn.ph/wp-content/uplo ... Test-3.jpg
So, naturally, I am a bit put off by IPS monitors. I don't want to make the same mistake again and buy another IPS which I end up regretting. However, at the same time, I do see that the top IPS monitors like the VG259QM and the MAG251RX have really good motion blur, so now I'm at a loss.
On the other hand, the Omen X 25 seems to be really good for its price, only issue seems to be its colors, which again dont seem that bad. Can someone guide me and help me buy a monitor thats worth its money and wont make me gouge my eyes out because of the motion blur.
Thanks in advance.

Can you tell me what your bad experiences are with IPS?
Since 2020, lots of things have changed with IPS.

Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
The monitor I'm currently using (XG2405 Viewsonic), to me feels it has a lot of motion blur. It could be I'm more perceptive to motion blur, idk, but it just feels like everything is blurred in motion. I had a TN monitor before I bought this, an Acer XF251Q, a 75hz 1080p TN and it felt miles better in terms of motion clarity, even though it was only 75hz. So, that is my experience with IPS monitors.Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 17:31Can you tell me what your bad experiences are with IPS?

This viewsonic is a 2020 model as well, I'm pretty sure.

You can look at the UFO test of the Viewsonic here: https://www.techporn.ph/wp-content/uplo ... Test-3.jpg

TN 240hz suggestions:
If you don't plan to use strobing omen x 25 (x 25f) is the fastest and cheapest choice
If you want to go bigger - omen x 27 (27'' 1440p@240hz) that's just a tiny bit slower than x 25
If you want strobing - benq xl2546k
Source: Used x 25f, using x 27 now. I chose monitors according to rtings response time / input lag (and blur pics) and local prices. No regrets.

Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
That panda panel is considered to be a 'fast' IPS, it just needs better overdrive option. But I don't think response times is what is bugging you. Sample-and-hold/MPRT blur is a big factor too (https://i.ibb.co/z5ZQZmT/Perceived-Motion-Blur.png). Before you buy anything try the '1ms mode' on your Viewsonic. Make sure to utilize blur reduction correctly when testing (fps=Hz or fpsX2, flat stable limit..). What MBR does is reduces MPRT blur (sample-and-hold blur) significantly and response times partially. Let me know if it helps, I'm interested. Realistically upgrading to any faster sample-and-hold monitor will still look blurry. For me it was IPS 60 blurry> TN 144 blurry > TN 240 blurry > IPS 280 blurry and a matter of getting used to it and just enjoying the game. But in my case blur reduction didn't help either, to some people it does.
Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
The Omen X 25 looks really really good, only problem to me seems to be its colors and general TN issues. The XL2546K is the endgame monitor, but I cant justify its price.Kertwaii wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 22:07TN 240hz suggestions:

As you have used these monitors, would you say the colors on the Omen are bad? How would it compare?
Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
The 1ms mode makes a huge huge difference, its what made me able to use this monitor in the first place. However, the strobe crosstalk is so much that it becomes distracting in game, even still I use it because without it everything is a mess.Discorz wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 02:39That panda panel is considered to be a 'fast' IPS, it just needs better overdrive option. Theres also another special thing with this monitor, out of the box it has three response time modes, but they change nothing, however if you go into color settings in the OSD and set it to User, it for whatever reason actually changes the response time modes and theres now a noticable difference between the three modes. I've set it to the fastest with 1ms mode and it does increase motion clarity a ton, but the strobe crosstalk and overshoot just puts it off a bit. Input lag is noticably higher as well.
This is the reason why I wanted to go for a XL2411K as it has the best strobing, only after the XL2546K.
Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
Looks like you need a good blur reduction than. XG2431 is the way to go, but if u prefer high brightness than consider DyAc.
Re: Help in deciding what to buy.
Would've bought that, not available where I live sadly. I don't have many options, its either the XL2411K, Omen X 25, VG259QM/MAG251RX or the XL2546k
BTW, I did some shitty ufo tests:
