Gsync don´t work under 60fps

Post by gsyncnotrun » 30 Dec 2021, 10:56

Hello.
I recently purchased an Asus VG259Q monitor certified by Nvidia as compatible with Gsync.
When I play with frequencies of 60 fps or higher it seems to go well (sometimes above 60 not quite as smooth as it should) but as soon as it falls below 60 fps there is a lot of stuttering (almost the same as on my old monitor without Gsync ). My graphics card is not very powerful and I bought this monitor especially so that the games would be somewhat smoother, for example. between 47 and 60 that supports this monitor.
I have tried all the possible configurations and the ones that appear on this page, with the same or worse result.
It is assumed that if in a game I limit the fps to 50 the gsync should make the stutter barely noticeable. I understand that if the fps falls below 47 the gsync would not work and it would be noticeable.
If someone can help me.
Thank you.

Check the VRR range in CRU. Sometimes LFC can interfere with sync smoothness. Use OSD fps counter to check if its syncing correctly.

Thanks for your interest.
What I obtain without modifying anything is this, I think it is correct since it indicates from 48 to 144 hz which are what the monitor has.
In the monitor I cannot find a counter in the OSD.
Greetings.

If your gpu is not fast enoguh could be just unstable frametimes, stutters, dropping bellow 48 minimum and messing with the sync. Maybe expanding the range to 30-144 will help. Its worth trying. Also test it in other less demanding games where your gpu can push higher fps. Smooth Frog is perfect for testing these things - just limit the frame rate with a simple slider.

Your monitor is Nvidia certified and supports LFC, which means when the framerate drops below 48, LFC doubles/triples/quadruples refreshes (etc) to keep G-SYNC active down to an effective 1 fps.

That's not your issue, you're issue is you're under the assumption that G-SYNC prevents all forms of stutter. It doesn't. It only prevents V-SYNC stutter. It can do nothing for system stutter and will show that as is. It will simply prevent the additional latency and stutter standard V-SYNC would cause, and the tearing no sync would cause in the same case.

For more consistency and less stutter, try asking less of your system by either lower graphical settings to reach a higher, more stable framerate, and/or limiting your framerate to an average FPS your system can maintain in the given game 99% of the time without maxing your GPU.

Thank you for your answers
I understand what you are telling me, but for example playing far cry 4 with a medium setting I get 60 fps or more 99% of the time, but sometimes it drops from 60 fps to 59, 58..56 fps and recovers again and When this happens you can see the stuttering as it happened to me on my old 60 hz monitor, that is, for me, the Gsync is useless for me, I have not noticed any change. I have tried other games to rule out a bad optimization of far cry, but it happens to me in all of them.
Greetings and happy new year.

Again, G-SYNC syncs frames, it does not create them. That stutter is caused by the system repeating the previous frame more than once while it works on the next, usually due to background asset loading, etc. All G-SYNC can do in that instance is show that previous frame tear-free.

G-SYNC fixes the stutter V-SYNC creates when it causes a frame to repeat, but that's only one cause out of many causes for repeating frames. I.E. G-SYNC only fixes one.

Also, be sure you are playing at 144Hz 60 FPS with G-SYNC, not 60Hz 60 FPS, since you'll lose all the benefits of VRR on a high refresh rate monitor with the latter.
