250Hz is probably superior to 240Hz (and 500 to 480)

So far I didn't really understand if there is any reason to go with 240Hz in particular (except being a multiple of 60Hz) and now after owning one I assume that 250Hz is actually better for a very specific reason.
I have a 270Hz monitor which I set a custom profile for 250Hz, this is because I wanted to see if on 250Hz the mouse polling rate if I set it to 250 updates would match, but sadly it doesn't.

Still when I use the mouse on normal 1000Hz polling rate and set the display to 250Hz, the movement continuation seems to be most closely aligned. Though it isn't perfect either. I guess because it is a multiple of 250Hz and so the updates match more ideally.



Now a question I have is should we produce 250Hz monitors instead, use higher mouse polling rates (most definitely anyway) or is it even possible to v-sync the polling rate of mice?

With the increase of monitor refresh rate as long as there isnt a perfect phantom array effect yet (so anything below 1000Hz definitely) this appearance would get more and more visible and affect the smoothness of movements. For example if we go for 480Hz instead of 500Hz.

Solution is just to have a higher poll rate mouse over 1000hz like the razer viper 8khz, the chief has as writeup on this forum as to why higher mouse pollrates are required as monitor refresh rates increase.

Yeah higher polling rates seem to be the answer, but I doubt many companies will adapt to higher polling rates and the compatability with many games is also limited as much as I know. So I would just assume that going for 250Hz instead of 240Hz etc. would be the solution for the short term and easier to do.

You can purchase any 280Hz monitor to do 250Hz, and this works well.

Also, if framerates fluctuate below 250fps with VSYNC OFF, you also get some jitters again (unlike Windows Desktop which is always VSYNC ON).

However, people who want to enable G-SYNC and FreeSync, will have varying Hz=framerate, so the overkill pollrates are beneficial for oversampling digital aliasing effects. 2000Hz and up pollrate looks really good with VRR.
