I hope that the 500Hz Windows limit is going to be broken rather quickly by Windows 11. There's preliminary Hz-limit-raising already done by Microsoft, thanks to some of my encouraging of some of my Microsoft contacts...

I didn't even know about that limit... seems like I'll finally need to let go of 7, despite it having way better polling precision and DPC latency.

Yup. You have no choice but to upgrade to Windows 11. Even Windows 10 doesn’t support 500 Hz.

But wait to see if Microsoft might be willing to backport 1000 Hz support to Windows 10. The first above-500Hz monitor is lurking extremely soon in Microsoft’s horizon.

Whatever you do, don’t use anything less than the Pro edition of Windows. (Server is better, but $$$)

What's so special about pro

It's minor but I trust Pro more.

More secure etc (Bitlocker, WIP, Group Policy tweaks, etc).

And less likely for OEM's to install adware/clutter if it's a Pro preinstall.

Ever buy a computer from a big vendor, full of preinstalled adware? Perhaps a family member did. Ugh.

It's different if you self-install and self-tweak, tho.

What's so special about pro

It lacks some virtualization feature that requires workarounds for home, I've needed it once for a very specific game, once. For normal people it shouldn't be much different. but servers just awesome.

So, the limit in windows 10 is 512 hz, have i understood this correctly? So if im using windows 10 or windows server 2022 i could use the upcoming rog swift 500hz but not this 540hz panel, correctly?
Unless windows patches this, which is how likely in your opinion?

And also, considering razer is now making 4khz wireless mice, would 4khz be enough to get the full visual benefit from 500/540hz?
Or do we need 8khz for that to get the full experience?
