[ Review ] : OMEN X HP 27 - Good ghosting but there is a catch...

Hi I introduce myself , i'm Alpha Aquilae ( yes like the star ) and i'm very pernickety about color accuracy and motion blur handling, i have review a lot of monitors for competitive gameplay in Apex Legends and Call of duty and it's doesn't suit me at all, there is the list of what i've already had in the past :

and I probably forgot a few other, so I think I can do a good review here after all I tried.


Today i wanted to put a review on the Omen X HP 27 and yes like in the title, the ghosting performance is really good but there is a catch...

Compared with some IPS 165hz panel, this panel is incredibly fast and it's so good to see, the best overdrive for me is the latest wich does not showing reverse ghosting ( very good OD gestion ) there is the video that i've made :

You can clearly see that with OD 4 ( G-sync/Adaptative-Sync enable ) the reverse ghosting is not here ! and it's great ! ( maybe a little black trail...but when you play, you don't notice that )


The problem with this panel is the anti-glare coating ( like 99% of monitors ) here we have a grainy coating and it's very, very grainy ( like Alienware coating ) but here we have 1440p panel with Sharpness option, the sharpness option are not like i've imagine, you have 7 sharpness mode, 1 to 3 are too blurry for all things, 4 to 5 is good to type text or navigate on Youtube etc, 5 to 6 is very good for playing and 7 are...well, too sharp for use.

And suddenly it's quite weird, the experience on some games is quite controversial because we see a lot of grain and it impairs distance vision very slightly (it's better than the 1080p version don't get me wrong) but there is a concern for clarity here.

The other point that in my opinion is a "no choice" is the fact that there is software called "Omen Command Center" and it's just horrible, you can barely control what you want and the parameters reactivate on their own at times (so I removed it, it has nothing to do with the software that we use on MSI monitors or you can clearly modify EVERYTHING)

The monitor is also super heavy and solid, that's cool! but on an articulated arm it's not terrible and my arm is struggling to hold it...we would say the weight of a 32 inch screen.

The screen also has a tendency to heat up a lot on the lower edge of the screen where there is the O M E N logo, if you remove the small light, it heats up slightly less, but that's not it yet.

For a TN the colors are very good and I was surprised to see that! obviously, nothing to do with the colors of an IPS Quantum Dots like the Asus XG27AQM for example.

It remains quite bright but the fact that we have no color saturation option or option to control dark areas, I find that not terrible, after that it's a TN panel, so it's fine, it doesn't no black crushed.

The panel is fast and when i want to track some ennemies i have no difficulty to do that, not like my previous MSI MAG274QRF-QD.

In conclusion, this is a bad screen ? for 450 euro, is not the best, clearly, you miss lot a things here to play competitive or for comfort on windows navigate, like a better OSD control ( The controls of the osd are made with buttons and not a wheel, it's VERY boring ... ) , apparently no profile shortcut buttons and the grainy coating add some blurriness.

I don't know yet if I'll keep it but since the OSD control is bad and I want to try the Acer Nitro 1440p 240hz Quantum Dots, I don't know if I'll keep it.

Tbh, actually i don't have any monitors, i resend the HP today because it's too bad for me personally and I don't recommend this monitor at all, only BenQ and Asus have good TN with good OSD, the greatest monitor of what I've had is the Asus XG27AQM 1440p Fast-IPS 270hz, but I wanted to test another with the Acer Nitro 1440p IPS 270hz which have the same panel than the Asus XG27AQM.
