News on the ROG Swift (PG278Q)
Re: News on the ROG Swift (PG278Q)
Quick thoughts about the monitor:
-G-sync does what it should, and he does it well: remove stutters+tearing
-Sub 60fps is still very uncomfortable and unpleasant even with G-sync. 70-90fps is where its starts to become enjoyable for me.
-even at 100% strobe length, ULMB is too harsh for the eye for desktop use (white backgrounds). It's awesome for games though, at the condition the game is relatively dark.

I have the monitor sitting on my desk.PoWn3d_0704 wrote:So chief, you cant even post up your review of your ROG until mid august? You mentioned there was a unit inbound to you some time ago, and I can only assume that you have it and are doing amazing things with it.
This is the North American launch, so there are different 'launch dates' involved - ASUS has given me (And probably other North America-targeted sites like like AnandTech, etc.) a review release date of August 11th (IMPORTANT: subject to change) which is a little closer to the American launch.
The European reviewers (And sites who got monitors via European channels) got a head start, mind you.

I have my fingers crossed that the date won't change! I'm ready to click "buy" or "Preorder" from any of the US vendors as soon as it's available!Chief Blur Buster wrote:I have the monitor sitting on my desk.PoWn3d_0704 wrote:So chief, you cant even post up your review of your ROG until mid august? I did check out eBay and there are 2 of them posted. One from the UK for over $1100 and another is a pre-order for $1500.

From ASUS FAQ
Does it mean that ULMB mode will have significantly more input lag in comparison to G-Sync mode ?Menu: What is OD?
OD = Overdrive. It overdrives the pixel response rate and can be Off, Normal or Extreme.
It cannot be used in conjunction with ULMB
It can be used in conjunction with G-Sync

Re: News on the ROG Swift (PG278Q)
In my experience, overdrive has nothing to do with input lag on modern ASUS/BENQ monitors.
Both ASUS/BENQ currently have instant ability (real-time scanout off the wire) even with Overdrive.
That said, all forms of strobing (LightBoost, ULMB, BENQ Blur Reduction, etc) necessarily adds a very tiny bit of lag (~3-4ms) in exchange for the spetacular improvements in motion clarity of high-framerate material. Depending on the game and playstyles you do, the clarity improvements can outweigh the tiny added lag.

Re: News on the ROG Swift (PG278Q)
So, any particular reason why Asus put this in their ROG Swift FAQ ? For me it looks like Overdrive in ULMB mode is off, meaning that G2G response time will be much higher than Overdrive set to Normal with G-Sync.
Re: News on the ROG Swift (PG278Q)
I wanted to buy PG278Q but after reading about "Out of Range" problem that was reported by several people on asus rog forums i think i will hold off. The funny thing is that i have BenQ XL2420T (rev 2.0) and i experienced exactly the same "bug". I switched to DisplayPort cable 2 months ago and everything was working perfectly, but recently "Out of Range" message started appearing from time to time, and after about 2 weeks it is no longer possible for me to use DisplayPort at 144Hz, it just doesn't work anymore. I was forced to go back to DVI cable to be able to use 144Hz again.

Have you even had enough time with the monitor to give out the kind of review people around here are looking for?Chief Blur Buster wrote:I have the monitor sitting on my desk.PoWn3d_0704 wrote:So chief, you cant even post up your review of your ROG until mid august? If you really are out from your media hold tomorrow then can we expect some seriously throurgh testing results tomorrow?
