Hi all, so after some reading on this informative website, my understanding is that strobing works best when the refresh rates are steady and locked to the appropriate refresh rate (240 FPS / 240 HZ).
But with the new XL2566K and it's newer TN Panel, my question is: would I be better off pocketing the extra $200 for PC upgrades and getting the 2546K to maintain 240 FPS, OR, should I just get the 2566K and deal with the unstable framerate fluctuations of 240-320 FPS.
I plan on using the strobing function (DYAC) for both of these monitors.
My main games are all the mainline esports titles, but I'm mainly looking to get one of these monitors for Quake and Apex Legends. Now that I think of it, apex legends is locked to 300 fps anyways, any thoughts on that as well?
Thanks and please let me know if missed out on any crucial info.
360hz Strobed (XL2566K) Vs 240hz Strobed (XL2546K) If I Can't Reach 360 FPS consistently?

You should get the XL2566K as it's substantially faster than the 2546K and it's strobing feature is improved due to refresh headroom.
You could also run a custom 1080p@250hz mode for Quake and use DyAc, making it smooth and clear.

The refresh headroom is something I didn't think of, considering its 120 more hz, that means for those who are sensitive to the flickering this may help alleviate it?
And thank you for that idea for setting a custom res/refresh rate, that seems to be a great compromise

Flicker is one but that's not the thing, because more time between refresh cycles means more time for a strobe backlight to hide slow LCD GtG. If an LCD can scanout in 1/360sec, there's more time between refresh cycles at 1/240sec to hide LCD GtG, if you can do 240Hz refresh cycles scanned out in 1/360sec. Not all pixels refresh at the same time. See www.blurbusters.com/scanout
So in summary:
1. Lower lag.
...240fps at 360Hz is lower lag than 240fps at 240Hz
2. Refresh rate headroom improves strobing.
...240fps=240Hz strobing looks clearer on a 360Hz-capable panel
3. Other computer use / future GPU upgrades / etc
...Browser scrolling, panning, etc. Double Hz and framerate halves scrolling motion blur. And faster GtG of 360Hz E-TN

Interesting.
So, if I was playing a game where I only get about 150 - 200 frames, would it make sense to durn DYAC off and turn on Gsync, or keep Gsync off and use DYAC?
I usually would go for the clearer option, but I also hate stuttering, which happens in the games I play at the lower frame rates.

The Chief!! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, it's awesome to be able to interact with you. You & Kyube have thoroughly answered my original question.
Though, I do have one question regarding your second summary point:
From my understanding, wouldn't going below 360hz with strobing cause crosstalk? Or is it that above 240hz the effects of crosstalk become not as apparent? Thanks again.

Panels can be switched between multiple refresh rates.
To be clear,
A 360Hz panel configured to 240Hz, behaves with better 240fps @ 240Hz strobing (LESS crosstalk), than a 240Hz panel at its maximum Hz.

240fps on 360hz is better than 240fps on 240hz. However if I were you, I would hold on before buying the xl2566k. Ces just showcased the 500 hz monitor and 240hz oled. Maybe they're better than the benq, maybe it'll be cheaper or maybe it will just drive the prices down.
Here's a video from optimum tech talking about some of the newer monitors coming out. You do not wanna be the guy who spends $600 on a "new monitor" then right after a better/cheaper monitor comes out. I would wait 100% before buying a new monitor right now

Excellent point, thank you for the heads up. $600 for a TN is definitely overpriced. The OLED has me the most intrigued due to it's super clear transitions compared to even TN. The only concern I have with OLED is the input lag, little is known on how responsive it is.woodyfly wrote: ↑15 Jan 2023, 03:38240fps on 360hz is better than 240fps on 240hz.
