Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
So Dave is onto something..
as it stands we have 2 votes on Acer and 1 on Zowie..
Yeah i mean Zowie is also a no brainer,as you can c..
if you can purchase any without being to expensive,
you can not go wrong..
If you are like me,i personaly dont like any sort of black frame insertion,
so watch out for that,it will rule Dyac out, than you can prety much pick whatever you want..

Yeah, but, I've been using BFI on my Zowie XL2411P since I got it (3 or 4 years ago), and even when dealing with the VERY low brightness of BFI on XL2411P I still love it, that is why Im looking for something with that clarity motion or even higher if possible

The Acer 390hz (had this monitor too) gets very dark with VRB (Acers DYAC) activated. So its kinda useless. Plus the colors bleed aloth; Lots of times u cannot distinguish the enemy with the background.
Only thing that is better on the Acer 390hz compared to the XL2546K is the lower inputlag. But then again: what good is low inputlag if u cannot really see the enemy? Visibility def. outweighs inputlag.
The XL2566K is even faster then the Acer 390hz so is the best of both worlds.

Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
By the way, I'm surprised noone mentioned the ViewSonic XG2431, since it's Blur Busters Approved
Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
When strictly speaking about strobing, the XL2566K (in the 100-240hz range) is pretty much crosstalkless (when QFT trick and strobe utility are used) and much better than the XG2431.
You are definitely going to get a clearer picture (no/less crosstalk) on both of the above mentioned monitors over anything else on the market.
However, it is important that you are also able to sustain these frames reliably, meaning high refresh rate strobing is useless to you.
Most strobing should be done in 60-300hz range (in my opinion) as above that, sample and hold is getting dangerously close to 2ms MPRT (XL2566K @ 360hz no dyac)
Will you see a difference when upgrading? Yes
Over your monitor, wIth the XL2566K, you'll see:
- Much better handling of strobing (minimal to no crosstalk) with a much better range (100-250hz)
- Fastest sample and hold experience (non-strobed) on the market
- Better viewing angles (not entirely sure on this one)
The biggest con of the XL2566K, however, is the price.
WIth the XG2431, you'll see:
- Best motion handling on an IPS on the market, with a bigger range and emphasis on emulator content (60-240hz, 60hz-144hz is completely crosstalkless)
- 10bit color (as opposed to 6bit+FRC of both the xl2566k and xl2411p)
- Much better viewing angles
- Slightly sharper display (bigger PPI)
Whatever you pick from these two depends on your budget and what FPS you can run your games at consistently.
It is of utmost importance to run games at fps = hz when strobed.
From a pure motion clarity perspective, these two can only be topped by the OLED if any kind of BFI is implemented (either software or hardware), the rest of the market is no-where close.
The new ASUS 540hz display might compete if any form of strobing gets implemented (and allows for fine adjustments, which is not very likely to happen), but waiting on it is futile imo, since you're stuck on 300fps in Apex.
My pick from the two would go to the XL2566K, because you got a much bigger refresh rate headroom (360hz display running on 240hz allows for much less pronounced crosstalk than a 240hz display running on native refresh rate) over the XG2431 and you can do 240fps/hz on most modern hardware very easily (even in Apex). You also get a geometric refresh rate increase (144hz to 360hz is 2.5x, much easier to spot the difference over the small ~1.5x increase from 144hz to 240hz)

Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
kyube is completely right about clarity thingy..
TN is just better than IPS..
even thou there is an a opinion here,
lets say semi-official that there is almost no difference between TNvsIPS
especialy in this day in age, where you have 360hz vs 360.
I am firmly belivier that TN will allways do better.
Now the issue is price..if its not a thing..go always with TN..
and by looking those prices at your disposal,i honestly think its just plain and simple robbery!
so to mitigate that issue you can go with Acer and have 80-90% capability,
with 100% less money involved, that route seems fine to me.
best of luck with shopping.
and talking about XG2431..i mean its an official BB approved monitor!
and by default its gonna have the yield the right-of-way sort of speaking
like a police car with siren howling on a huge cross-section
So by default its gonna be recommended in every discusion.

Best xl2566k>xl2546k>rest
Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
Thank you for your inputs, I will try to save money and get an XL2566K, while checking for Acer's availability!
Re: Best e-sports monitor? (1080p)
Noticable difference in gaming situation just doesn't warrant the cost difference sorry, Xl2566k is overpriced.
If I owned one Im sure I would love it, but I have the Acer and I think it's nearly perfect for the games I play.

Shippable get them while they last
Again, I'm looking at price/performance the significant difference in price should sway some buyers for eSports monitor.. I don't care about tests run, real world game scenario you are talking about differences that 99.99% of the gaming population will NOT see.. my xL-2420z is the monitor I came from (now on my old rig) ancient and not comparable to today's panels but Im not just an Acer fanboy
