How I fixed my input lag
How I fixed my input lag
Hi. I would like to share with you how I defeated my input lag. I have been suffering from this problem for many years. In the last 2 years my mouse movements have become more or less fine. But still it was not up to the level of what it was about 10 years ago for example.
Yesterday I bought a DAC topping dx3 pro+. My thoughts were why not try to connect headphones through external power and through an optical connector S/PDIF which is less prone to interference, and finally set the volume to 100 in windows, and adjust it with the DAC. I listened to music all day, tried different filters (pcm filters, low pass filters, you can check in google "topping dx3 pro+ filters what it is and how generated wave look). And at the end of the day I went in to try gaming sound. At that moment I set 4th filter (slow roll off minimum) and sound frequency 44100/24. If before I could characterize my aim as 3/5, then it became 4/5. I was already happy that it was better. But! I decided to try other filters to see if the width of the soundstage changes for the better. And with every filter my in-game aim became different, not for the better. Then I tried first filter (brick-wall). And it become perfect - 5/5. Just like in old days. I'm so happy right now.
Many modern audio devices already use oversampling filters because it's cheap. Maybe we need NOS (non oversampling) sound cards/DAC or like in my case brick-wall filter which is considered as perfect digital filter. I understand that there are a lot of things that can cause input lag. But maybe my information will be a lifesaver for someone. At least it worth to try.

And whats are your connections with the computer or the headphones with it? Thanks man!

Yes. That one. I use PC with onboard audiocard alc1220<-->S/PDIF<-->DAC topping dx3 pro+spkii wrote: ↑18 Sep 2023, 03:01You mean this? https://www.amazon.es/Topping-Amplifica ... hdGY&psc=1

So you Connect directly to your MOBO this type https://www.amazon.es/AmazonBasics-Cabl ... YXRm&psc=1 and then to the DAC topping, but where you Connect the headphones? Directly to the DAC?
Re: How I fixed my input lag
I will never forget that there was a time when in cs:go where the sound of domination in deathmatch took away 100% of the input lag. I never found an explanation for that, but when I killed someone many times in a row, it played that sound that lasted seconds, and in those seconds I used to kill people with a facility that I could never have again.
Re: How I fixed my input lag
I'm assuming your microphone is still directly plugged into your motherboard (Realtek Mic In)?

Re: How I fixed my input lag
I am not very confident in audio but is there a way to use brick wall filtering at a Software-Level without a DAC? Maybe foobar from GitHub or any other program?
I only have a HyperX Cloud 2 "DAC".
Are there any findings if the same benefit can achieved by tuning the khz and bitrate at sound settings, I know there are much people that say that 16-bit, 44100 Hz is enough and reduces latency - but a few years ago I have read an article about that it is much better to raise to max bitrate and freq. But I cannot find it...

Re: How I fixed my input lag
if your audio realtek comes from usb, you feel only difference in driver (topping driver / realtek usb driver), you say you set 44.1/24, but if you cant set 16bit on topping you just need to install topping driver. I think this not about filter, if you unplug your dac while game your 99.9% cant feel any diff.
