Just wrote Asus support and they confirm there is no actual way to use VESA monitor arms with the PG248QP Swift

They told me Asus in reality has no official VESA kit and told me to try third-party ones. Unfortunately, all third-party brackets seem to block the g-sync fan, so the monitor will roast itself if you do that.

I cannot think of a smarter move for a $900 monitor than putting the only cooling fan inside the tiny VESA mounting port. Truly next-level design

Innocent question: if we don't use G-Sync and mount the monitor with standard VESA, hence blocking the fan, is it still gonna overheat? I mean, if we don't use the G-Sync module, it shouldn't overheat, should it? :D

I have G-sync disabled currently (but ULMB2 enabled) and I can say the monitor is very warm to the touch when I put my hand on the back panel and the G-sync fan is spinning. Definitely the G-sync module is not turned off.

I may try drilling / honeycombing a normal VESA plate, really the only thing that will work atm

I also looked at trying to take the monitor stand's mount-plate off and use it as a spacer for the VESA, but it has a bunch of tabs in the way that prevent it. Might try removing those. I'll post pics and any possible solution when I can

Something else to note: the newest build of Windows 11, that supports 540hz, seems to handle mixed-refresh-rate compositing much better than previous builds
Until I installed this update I had an obnoxious bug where viewing hardware-accelerated video on Chrome on my 60hz second monitor (with 240hz main) would stutter, because 240hz+60hz screwed with something in either Windows compositor or Nvidia's driver. New update and 540hz + 60hz has no such problems so far.

My VESA mount also blocks a significant portion of the fan's ventilation. I haven't heard the fan get loud yet, but I'm also not using ULMB or Gsync. I think I'll buy some VESA spacers/standoffs on Amazon so there's room to breathe just in case.

Maybe there's a service menu to see the temperature of the Gsync module. Probably need Asus support to tell us how to access it.

While I'm airing grievances on this monitor, I'll say that at least my specimen is really yellow out of the box. Way worse out-of-the-box color than any past TN I've owned.

There's also this baffling thing called "GameVisual" where even Asus' manual doesn't know what it does. By default, "GameVisual Racing" is enabled on the monitor, and it's impossible to say what it's doing exactly. By flipping between the modes, you can see that they are doing something other than swapping available user-exposed settings. The "G-sync Esports" setting for example seems to hugely increase hue/chromacity (similar to the well-known Nvidia control panel adjustment)

You can disable it (I think?) by swapping to the "sRGB" GameVisual profile, but for some reason that locks all adjustments to:
"• In the sRGB Mode, the following function(s) are not user-configurable:
Color Temp., Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Six-axis Saturation."

I've just left it on racing mode... deeply bizarre feature

I've been using the Gsync Esports mode (GameVisual) and I had to drop Digital Vibrance down to 40% in Nvidia control panel to tame the colors. Everything else has been good so far.

I noticed that I'm unable to enable ULMB while on my Windows desktop. If I open a game, ULMB becomes available in the OSD. Not sure what's up with that.

I bought a PG248QP 540hz and here's a little bit of hilarity. There is currently no way to mount it with VESA safely.

The box comes with no VESA equipment, unlike some of Asus' other monitors.

If you try to mount it to your monitor arm, you will discover that a standard VESA mounting plate blocks the G-sync fan. Yes, they put the g-sync fan's only ventilation intake INSIDE THE VESA MOUNT! Lmao

So looking at Asus other monitors that don't cost $900, they include a special VESA plate and standoffs that allows the gsync module to get air. But the instructions for PG248QP 540hz simply say: "The 100x100 VESA wall mount kit is purchased separately."
If you Google, there is no such kit from Asus. At least not in the US market.

So if you spend $900 on this monitor and are hoping to use it with a monitor arm, sorry - not happening
Interesting. Ty for sharing! This monitor is about to hit the EU market prob. Next week. Hope to buy it then. If I get stuck on this matter I will mail Asus support.

Can u please tell me what monitor u had before this monitor and how the brightness hold up with ulmb2 with 100 pulsewidth on the pg248qp compared to your old monitor when u enabled backlightstrobing on your old monitor? (If it had backlightstrobing ofc)
I am very curious what monitor u had before! hope to hear from u!!
I'm very interested in the advancement of a solution for the vesa mount, please feel free to share your solutions. I hope the release in Europe will be in the next few days, I feel like the wait is endless

I don't have the monitor yet but I've searched for potential solutions, here is what I found:

1) use "COVER.WALL.MOUNTING 33.TBRM2.005", see https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comme ... 1hk_after/ and https://community.acer.com/en/discussio ... er-purpose EDIT: I have the monitor now, it doesn't fit. Solution 2) below works just fine.

2) use standoffs such as https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcing-map-M ... C73&sr=8-4 to make space between monitor and VESA mount arm (use M4 male-female).

I just added 4x M4 20+6mm standoffs and now there's plenty of space for airflow with a VESA mount.
