First off, you didn't mention your driver version, but there's a known issue in the latest Nvidia drivers:
Some monitors may display random black screen flicker when in Display Stream Compression mode when using R530 drivers [4034096]
And your Acer x28 appears to utilize DSC to achieve its max refresh rate at 4k.

I was experiencing random black screens on my PG27AQN (1440p 360Hz G-SYNC native display with DSC) until I lowered my output color depth to 8-bit from 12-bit in the NVCP under "Change resolution" with the latest driver (even in single monitor mode).

Assuming you've ruled that out, multi-monitor configurations can cause issues like this, especially with G-SYNC and/or DSC. I've experienced similar recently with a PG279QM (1440p 240Hz native G-SYNC without DSC) paired with the PG27AQN.

You can try to disable DSC on the monitor (if available, which would obviously lower the max usable Hz) and/or temporarily unplug the secondary to see if it resolves the black screens.

Black screens during alt-tab can also be caused by how a particular monitor handles resolution/Hz switches between the desktop and running apps in certain scenarios, but, again, the current black screen driver issue with DSC monitors would be the first thing to rule out.
Wow, I used this method and it's working 100% no more black screen, fluctuation or random flicker
Currently using a Samsung Neo G8 4k 32inch 240hz
Zotac Trinity OC 4090

THANK YOU!!

Good to hear it helped. Hopefully Nvidia will address the DSC issues in a driver release sooner than later.

Update: as of driver version 545.84, Nvidia has claimed to have fixed the issue:

That's awesome! I'll install the driver and report back to see if I have any issues at all.
This website is awesome and I appreciate your assistance, jorimt.

I haven't had the black screen issue since my last post since changing my color profile as well!

Good to hear :) And yes, it will be interesting to see if the driver fixed it on your particular model outside the 422 color format.

Me again. The black screen occurred even with the new driver version.

I installed the new version and reset my control panel back to default (rgb color, 8 bit, nvidia performance mode set to optimal power) and it occurred.

The only way I didn't get the error was either changing the color format or setting the performance to prefer maximum performance under nvidia control panel.

Yeah, claims of fixes don't always = fixes. Either they didn't actually fix it, or what they fixed wasn't directly related to your issue.

I just did a DDU uninstall/reinstall of the latest driver and will test this as well.

Just happened to me again.

Seems the only fixes for my issue are either enabling prefer maximum performance in the control panel to max my clocks (or enabling nvidia reflex to on or on + boost as that also maxes my card's clocks) or changing the color format to YCbCr422.

Each time it happens, my clocks are not at max (loading screen, in game menu, etc) so either making sure my card doesn't downclock or changing to YCbCr422 should fix it.

Thanks for your help!

Hey, whatever works. You could always report your issues here:

If any of it is still on Nvidia, here's hoping they'll resolve it eventually.
