Pwm can be seen with a photo of a single shade background with a fast enough shutter. As the photo is being taken, the shutter of the camera will move down the sensor and the PWM backlighting will leave a bright line in the middle of the photo. The same thing happens when you film a CRT.
For frame skipping check out this test:

Most phone cameras should automatically lengthen the shutter time in a dark room. If there's a flash, disable it.

Lexlazootin says 'fast enough shutter"
and Sparky says "lengthen shutter time"
ummm ok..

for the frameskipping test you want a long shutter. to determine if your monitor uses PWM backlighting you want a short shutter, though it should still show up as banding on a longer shutter.

I got my HKC X3 today.
I am using DisplayPort cable right now and it allows me to go up to 144Hz, but unfortunately frameskipping happens on 144Hz. I think it's something like non-real 144Hz... But with 120Hz it's no problem at all though. I even tried lowering resolution to no avail. So, to sum it up, DisplayPort does not make a difference. Color is only up to 8bpc in settings

And I don't know what about this 3D mode though. What I know is if I enable them (that menu in Windows) then Stereoscopic 3D setting in nVidia control panel would be enabled.

I guess the monitor is 6bit after all, as I can see separate banding in colors if shown a gradient, but I really do not know. But the contrast ratio and the black levels... are... phenomenal. 120Hz is also phenomenal. In my package I have more free accessory than I needed, including but not limited to DisplayPort cable, DVI cable, 3.5mm Audio Male-Male cables. My issue right now is the neck of the monitor is a little bit tall and I can't seem to be able to adjust them.
I haven't played with this long enough, but I guess input lag is not noticeable. I'll put some new info if I have some new findings, but I think this is an overall a well-worth purchase. I am seriously shocked by their contrast ratio, it's so breathtaking. Even it's 6bit in general (probably not! I hope it's 8!) it's better than 8bit without a deep contrast ratio. I also cannot find any kind of ghosting. This panel is using way less AG than common AG coating monitors though.

Nice that you got your monitor!
Btw, you will overcome the cons, they are not much of a big deal vs the pros. Are you positive about banding is only this screen? My Laptop TN panel is also 6bit, but i doesn't show banding AT ALL. It has Dithering which smoothes everything. There is NO true 8bit TN panel either. SO there are other variables to the test.
But my 10bit sony tv and 12bit Vizio shows banding on some sources. Also my IPS showed banding. I went to go to this site and the images didn't have banding.
Nvidia seemed to be the issue causing the actual banding
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... radients-/
I really don't like banding, but every screen tht I own except the TN panel has it, but I haven't dealt with this since recent years.
TEST this site and see if u see banding:
http://gratisography.com/ I didn't see a trace of it here
This is real pro encoded photography
First go to the (...) and put in English
Are u gonna calibrate it? Or at least try my settings
Mode: STANDARD
Red :50
Green: 45
Blue : 42
Color Temp: USER
Gamma 1
Bright 36
Contrast 50
Nvidia Control 6% more Gamma / 1.06
The neck is fully adjustable. JUST PUSH the monitor down WITH BOTH OF YOUR HANDS.
Sorry, another edit: My friend says his Ev2450 IPS by Eizo also shows banding in tests its a 6bit +FRC too. Actually, you cannot
Get an 8bit true panel for AH VA (ips)

Thanks for your help! I think I already changed the color in nVidia settings to full as suggested in that forum before. To be honest the contrast ratio is so wonderful that I thought this seems like the real 6bit panel, meanwhile other usual monitors are Fake 8-bit. I am using dual-monitor, so I can see the difference side-by-side. It's true that my other monitor does not have banding, but it seems like the color is washed out, using a high ratio contrast panel makes you want to stop using normal low contrast panel.
I don't think my monitor is doing any kind of dithering or FRC right now. It's true that the pros outweigh the cons, hahaha I tried your setting with some modification but I'm not that sensitive to color accuracy though. I'll play with the neck later!
I went and changed the language anyway.
I'll have a look at the banding issue later and play with some settings later but overall I'm satisfied. Again, thanks for your review! It's one wonderful monitor.

No problem man! Well here's why colors matter even if you'are not color sensitive. You see, you need to set RGB values. After a while you will get serious eye/headache fatigue if it's not calibrated .
Hope y ou're having a blast with the new screen! Jealous that you got the monitor for base price $133 usd right? I hope you did! The normal price is 899 yuan.

Garry, can you tell me which graphics card are you using? (regarding banding).
