Monitor innovation has accelerated recently (gaming monitors are in the moment of a HDD->SSD style 'sudden' transition cycle) -- so the upgrade cycles are a bit more rapid at the moment as the surge of new motion-fluidity-improving technologies hit the market. One could could also buy a 120Hz monitor now, resell, then get a GSYNC monitor when they start surging onto the market.
That said, I understand the desire to wait!
