Not yet in #2, because:

-- NVIDIA has told all websites not to reveal further new details about it until they make an announcement (except the info already revealed in October)
-- What John Carmack has revealed already certainly exists.

In your Panasonic TV scanning thread I posted a paper (Video Processing for LCD-TVs) that includes a discussion of Smooth Frame Insertion (SFI) on 120 Hz displays with 60 Hz sources where a bright, blurry, low accutance subpicture is flashed and then the full detailed picture with it's contrasty edges is flashed. This helps with light output, flicker rate and double-imaging all without risking artifacts (and processing power) to do full 120 fps interpolation.

Latency for twitchy use cases would probably take a hit with standard SFI but I'm curious if Dolby's dual-modulation system could be used to create an end-to-end system for fast SFI in the display. Assuming the rate limiting factor is the input (120 Hz+) yet the display can do higher (240 Hz+) using fast SFI might work well. Dolby Vision basically has a type of a low-res "smooth frame" in the form of the luminance map for the 4D backlight so if a gpu can generate data for it and the lcd panel it could bypass the display's processing buffers. Sort of like a "local-scanning" version of a local-dimming led array.

It does, with a minor deleterious effect on motion clarity. I would prefer that the double-strobe not be there, though.
