XL2411P is edgelit. As of now (early 2021), ALL modern gaming monitors are edgelit except for a few models like 4-figure-priced G-SYNC Ultimate.

Are you sure about this? I have the AW2721D from Alienware and it is Gsync Ultimate, but I've read it is not a full array back light.

I checked and... You're right. It has local dimming, but it's edgelight-based local dimming. Thanks for the correction. I am not frequently exposed to Dell/Alienware brand, nor work with these people (yet...).

I wish it was full array. The local dimming that the AW2721D uses works alright. However, every once in a while I will see a line of faint light going down the monitor. Basically, if there is a black image with a small white shape in the middle. During normal usage it looks fine. The main reason I don't use it is because it adds input lag.

I I actually have an early XL2411P and think it is direct backlit - atleast according to rtings review it is (under local dimming section). I have 0 issues with this monitor atleast.

Contacted BenQ directly through email support , Twitter , and REddit and they all said it was Edge Lit like the rest of their panels. I contacted rtings and they said they had heard this from a few users now and were going to retest. Wondering if it changed without them changing the number at some point.

I think this is what might have happened - a change of panels at some point. If not that means there is a possibility that my eyes are just sensitive to different panel types other than TN and I could potentially try a newer TN. So annoying to have to try figure this out, hopefully we get to a point some day where we understand the causes of these sorts of things so people dont have to go through this process themselves.

I spent 2 weeks with the GL850 and while the strain wasn't as immediate it still became unbearable within a few hours. I have returned it and am not sure what to try next. I give up on IPS , and the well reviewed Gigabyte VA monitor was just as bad. I guess I will try a basic TN panel 144hz and see if that bothers me as well . I'm fairly certain at this point its the Edge Lit backlight that is doing it though.

Sorry to bump an old thread but have you since found a solution for yourself Duox. I recently bought an old direct-lit monitor (asus pg279q) from ebay to rule this out and unfortunately my eye strain has persisted with this monitor. So now I have tried:

• LG GL850
• LG GL83A
• Samsung G7
• Omen x 27
• MSI MAG274QRF-QD
• Asus PG279Q

All of these give me varying levels of eye strain but my old XL2411P does not, I really want to make the jump to a decent 1440p gaming monitor (i'm actually still using the MSI MAG274QRF-QD despite the eye strain because it's that much better). I'm not sure the commonality in all of these monitors (or what's different in the XL2411P).
