Hi all, Looking for recommendation on a monitor upgrade.
I currently have Dell S2716DG 144hz and was planning on getting ASUS ROG Strix XG258Q but it is not available new anywhere that i've checked. except from Australia on ebay. I realize this is an IPS thread, but I am seeing many RL players in here, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I am looking for a 240hz, 360hz monitor with lowest input lag & latency. TN or IPS. Thank you.
If you want the very BEST in motion clarity and input lag then literally any of these monitors below will cater to that. Most share the same panel but have different tunings. You can search through this thread alone to look at various info, and also use other sources on the web.
MSI Optix MAG251RX
Alienware AW2521HF
ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QM/VG279QM (depending on what size you want)
Acer Predator XB253QGX
Lenovo Legion Y25-25
As regards to 360hz monitors, information is rather limited right now. I have used 3 monitors on that list and the difference in "just" performance is negligible. So again you can't really go wrong with any of them, it will likely just come down to panel variances.
In case you're wondering, since you mentioned Rocket League, I finished last season in 2v2 at 1912 and 1840 in 3v3. So I do play at what i consider a "high" standard, since i'm constantly playing with and against EU pro players.

Much appreciated. MAG251RX seems like the perfect choice.

Hey, thought I would let you know but you quoted me RLRS CONTENDER instead of RLCS CONTENDER. Hope he gets back to you!

Nice! I am only 1700, but I am curious what monitor you use for rocket league. Thanks.

Currently using the Alienware AW2521HF. But again as i said, all of those monitors listed have comparable performance so you wouldn't notice a difference in that area.

MAG251RX ($479) or AW2521HF ($412)?
Hey guys, I'm too stupid to decide myself, could you help me please?
-my average framerate is 60-120 fps, not going to keep it 240+ (don't want 144 hz version because they all have SPEAKERS=dust collector, and I need only a true 8-bit panel so 24" 144hz IPS 1080p is not an option too)
-don't care about a stand because I have a monitor arm
-care about color quality to enjoy movies
-not hardcore gamer but care about response time to enjoy smoothness in computer games
-VERY SENSIBLE to input lag (I hate v-sync) means I'm not going to use freesync
Hello, my profil is similar to yours and I just ordered the MAG251RX for 399€ (477US$). I read a lot of articles and those are 2 very good monitors, the Alienware has better build quality but performances overall are better for the MSI. I'll have my monitor in few days, actually having a TN XL2420Z 144hz, I'll come back to give my opinion about it !
My final opinion : MAG251RX is a master piece 1080P240hz monitor. But the 240hz is maybe overkill. G-sync is really awesome feature, but I'm not sure seeing/feeling a difference between 144 and 240hz. I think I need to focus on my 240hz and then come back to my 144hz later to feel the difference. It's not that obvious.
Which is obvious is the Gsync and colors compared to my TN.
I'm hesitating refunding and getting a 27" 1440p165hz gsync monitor at this point. Some people say that the PPI is not worth the extra GPU charge compared to 24" 1080p, some people say it is. I'm kinda lost.
I think I'm going to keep the MAG251RX and order a 27"1440P165hz monitor in few months and make a final choice.
Hard decisions!
I have got the monitor, I was using NEC P241W before (1200p, 60 hz, 6 bit+FRC). Colors are much better on MAG251RX on desktop, still had no time to test it in games. I agree with you, 240 hz is overkill compared to 144 hz if you can't achieve 240 fps, but all the 144 hz 24.5 IPS 8 bit monitors have stupid speakers. I don't recommend 1440p if you play computer games, especially old games, because of bad scaling=tiny fonts, plus performance hit is about 40%, doesn't worth it.
