Display Stream Compression (DSC) also causes long Alt+Tab times. Games that use exclusive full screen will experience it. You can turn off DSC but then you won't be reaching 500+ Hz.
Yes, you need DSC=DSC status ON=ON or OFF=OFF for Windows=Game for faster Alt+Tab

Keep everything the same DSC state, VRR state, resolution state, refresh rates, timings, ToastyX numbers, not just the bitformat same (6bpc, 8bpc, 10bpc) and HDR format same (on/off/colorspace/etc) too.

It's all the same mode change arithmetic. One teensy binary bit different, boom, slow Alt+Tab for FSE.

If you want a different mode for your Windows, and for your FSE game, then you have no choice but to tolerate the slow Alt+Tab behavior.

Often times, the only time Alt+Tab is fast in FSE is an unmodified DisplayPort signal (identical cable timings & protocol Windows->FSE) and it's a lot more work now to convince the drivers that the mode the same.

15 years ago, you only had to worry about a simpler EDID, now you've got a soup of additional display formats and protocols available (VRR, HDR, DSC, etc) and the display almost has to reboot-reinitialize when something changes.

Hey David,

I got the Asus pg27aqdp and have been trying to play PUBG with 1728x1080 for maximum fps, but I did not realise how blurry 1080p on a 1440p monitor is!

The 1440p mode is very clear (obviously) but 1920x1080 or 1728x1080 is very blurry that I cannot play PUBG competitively.

1440p feels laggy and obviously much less fps compared to the 1080p modes though, so I need 1080p for buttery smooth and snappy performance.

So now I don't know what to do, do i swap out the monitor for a 540hz tn 1080p, so it wont be blurry, or do i keep the PG27AQDP and wait for the 5090 RTX, so I can run 480fps @1440p (not blurry) on this monitor?

Now you know why the 1080p or 4K dual mode is good and 1440p is bad... unless you want to play 720p.

You can create a custom resolution for 2304x1440p which is the same aspect ratio as 1728x1080 but it's much sharper since it's 1440p vertical. It works on my PG27AQDP at 480Hz.

1) Disable DSC in the monitor OSD
2) Open Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Customize
3) Once in the Customize screen for custom resolutions, turn back on DSC in the monitor OSD, and then create the 2304x1440p resolution with the refresh of 480Hz.
4) Load up PUBG and enjoy your stretched resolution at 1440p

There's definitely a competitive advantage by using higher resolution displays in Battle Royale games. Spotting enemies first makes a huge difference and it's easier to see at long range with higher res.

I already have been using 2304x1440p on my PG27AQDP.

But the problem is much less fps and snappiness hence why I have been trying to resort to the lower 1080p res on this monitor.

Maybe, i should just hold onto it because 5090 should be around the corner. And i would imagine that could get me just as high fps and snappiness at 1440p that I can get now at 1080p.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I have a PG248QP and PG27AQDP. Can't see myself using the 1080p TN ever again.

Do you play any fps games competitively like PUBG?

What are your reason for liking the PG27AQDP over the PG248QP besides the obvious one (image quality)?

I play a lot of ranked FPS games and tournaments/pugs in Quake Live, but Apex Legends is probably the only ranked BR I still play.

The upgrade to 1440p, near 0ms pixel response times, and I rarely used ULMB/Strobing. Strobing at 60Hz, 120Hz, 240Hz makes a lot of sense depending on the game though.

What settings do you use on your PG27AQDP?

I have actually just found an annoying thing on the PG27AQDP.

When I use 24.5" emulated mode from the OSD, you have to use the default 2368x1332 resolution it puts you on to get the full 480z. If you try to use a different res in this 24.5" emulated mode you will be limited to a max of 120Hz. This sux big time, because even my older MSI 271QRX 360Hz, allowed me to use it's own 24.5" emulated mode at any res with max refresh rate still being the maximum 360hz of that monitor.

So now, if I want to use the stretched res of 2304x1440 (1728x1080 equivalent of 1080p), on the PG27AQDP in the emulated 24.5" mode, then I will be limited to only 120hz.

So sad for such a pricey new monitor!
Wish the sony m10s was available earlier.
