yes, it's factory overclock. IF you see flickering, that just means your DP cable is loose or you have too many wires lying around that emit signals.
be mindful that 280hz, the monitor isnt' fast enough to keep up. However, smearing is invisible at high framerates so u won't see it. The benefit to 280hz is that you get slightly less input lag and better motion clarity thanks to the extra +40.
I always overclocked my asus when i played with it. When i compete, i always assume they have a TN monitor. TN cannot go hgiher than 240hz, the asus can and it's a decent advantage(not gamebreaking) but you are factually playing faster than them. (asus tested this, by comparing a 240hz monitor to the 280hz asus, the 280z was noticeably faster than the 240hz side by side using the same fast moving motions.

Best to use DP cable, got it.RLCScontender wrote: ↑05 May 2020, 04:32yes, it's factory overclock. IF you see flickering, that just means your DP cable is loose or you have too many wires lying around that emit signals.

So is completely safe to leave it at 280hz forever? i was worried it will reduce the lifespan of that monitor overtime.
when you mention better motion clarity is the same terms as ghosting, overshoot similiar when a monitor isnt having a Fast enough GtG response time right?
for example msi have 3.0ms GtG response time therefore it have less ghosting and overshoot/undershoot. but with more HZ it also does a similiar job as the msi even though 3.0 at 240hz vs 280hz asus at 4.0ms? because of the 40hz?
Anyways thanks for explaning everything everytime, really appreciate that.

Thanks!RLCScontender wrote: ↑05 May 2020, 00:19i owned the viewsonic elite xg270qg. 165hz ips g-sync monitor with Nano backlight.
....
Interesting as an 1440p IPS could have better image with its higher resolution.
I guess you need the SRGB mode to work? Or does it add something to games, or even eye strain?RLCScontender wrote: ↑05 May 2020, 00:19...
I had that monitor replaced with the LG 27gl850-b since it has SRGB mode
I'm "(re-)searching" if contrast could have anything to do with eye strain somehow (maybe the higher the contrast the faster-easier you focus?).
Do you think contrast made an important difference on the MSI? (as you said it has more that any other).
Thanks anyway

OMG, the gl 27gl850 is probably the best monitor i have ever used in my life
SRGB mode rocks, it's factory calibrated which means it's equivalent to that of the gl83a.
unlike the viewsonic xg270qg where i am not sure if i'm in SRGB mode since i cannot clamp the gamut
also the 27 gl850 is faster than the viewsonic when it comes to actual response times. The viewsonic is stuck at 5ms "standard" overdrive whereas since any higher has overshoot.,

How is the contrast? I had the cheaper gl83a and while the monitor felt very responsive and close to TN panel it also looked like one even though colors were better. Best way to describe the monitor is it looked like a had a coating of milk over it. I had to return the monitor and settled for vg27aq.

For all the monitors you own recently, do you always on SRGB mode on the other monitors? most people leave it off as default, is there a reason for it?RLCScontender wrote: ↑06 May 2020, 05:07OMG, the gl 27gl850 is probably the best monitor i have ever used in my life

Do you also prefer SRGB mode on or off for your recent monitors?

I think people are trying to find the unicorn with perfect color , refresh rate , HDR etc..
When someone tell you a monitor is the best overall then it also means that for a specific purpose it not necessary the best.
I have an LG Oled C8 65" TV soon to be a CX , a PG279Q and just ordered an XL2546S , i am quite sure that overall I have a better experience than any of the good overall IPS people talk about.
Anyone looking at a monitor at 3.4m distance shouldn't give advice about what is best or not.

I just ordered a VG259QM, I will receive this product in 1/2 weeks.
If you guys are interested I can make a couple of tests like Pursuit Ufo Test, 480fps slow motion footage(I generally use it to find the right fps cap to prevent microstutters), frog pursuit, ...
I can compare the clarity with my XG2402.

See if 80 OD works on 240hz without overshoot. Forii claims there's heavy overshoot at 80 OD on the 25" model.
