Re: Official Asus ROG Swift 360Hz PG259QN Owners Thread

I started the return process on my Asus PG259QN and purchased an Alienware AW2521H instead. I'll be equipped to provide a subjective comparison when the new monitor arrives.
First, the return is due to a dead pixel is the MIDDLE of the damn screen. I tried everything I could to revive it / fix it in case it was a stuck pixel... but nothing is working. Apparently I'm not the first one with a dead pixel (a quick reddit search indicated someone else went through 2 monitors with issues) so that's why I'm returning it.
I would have exchanged / replaced it for the same monitor except...
I felt that fine tuning & adjustment features on the Asus was limited (or rather, very hard to adjust). For an average user, I like having presets to get me started and I felt like the presets on the Asus weren't very good. I ended up using the Esports mode, adjusting the white balance so it's slightly cooler and the gamma so it's slightly brighter. Then played around with contrast / brightness until I found something I enjoyed.
The thing is... with gaming monitors, it's not always about color accuracy (even though that's great) but rather being able to easily tune the monitor the way you prefer for certain games. When compared to my previous daily driver, the LG 27GK750F-B, I found that the Asus was either too bright or too dark. (And I tried playing around with their version of dark boost but didn't like the results. Ended up setting it to level 3).
Long story short, the colors on the 27GK750F-B aren't good. They aren't accurate.... however i was able to rapidly set up the monitor in a way that I liked. With the Asus, I spend 2 hours tweaking colors and still haven't found something that I like.
Combine that with a dead pixel and I'm done with it.
That said, the 360hz is great. The input lag is great. The monitor is very fast and responsive (more so than the LG 27GK750F-B). In terms of clarity, I find it to be very close (the LG was running in ULMB mode at 240hz) and this is running in normal 360hz mode. I wish I could run strobbing / ULMB / BFI at 360hz but I don't think that's possible with any of these monitors.
tl;dr Returning the Asus, purchased the Alienware version of this panel. Dead pixels suck. 360hz is great. Hopefully the Alienware has better presets / easier to configure color / brightness options.
