Therefore I would advise people to not purchase any monitor that relies on it to function or otherwise turn it off if you can.
Thats why I wont be getting the new Zowie XL2586X u cannot disbale DSC! My Asus pg248qp can.
I dont understand Zowie why they leave that option out when they use a hdmi 2.1 cable.

Setting the monitor to 8bit turns DSC off and removes both of these problems
Did you know that on some games 10 bits are not really allowed/activate and then you didn't have your DSC ?
Like on Apex Legends.

Anyway i've had the AW2723DF at the beginning when it was released and i didn't get any issue with latency, feels smoother and faster than a XV272UX which didn't have DSC in 8 bits on my games.

But i agree about the XG27AQM and the AQMR, these two are bad.

As far as I know, you can switch to EDID 500HZ in the XL2586X OSD, which will disable the DSC.

I think the xl2586x is non overclockable in CRU like the pg248qp is. For all i know ASUS build in some save switch thats prevents people from breaking there monitor while overclocking. Example on the faq of the zowie monitor:

Q: "Why my monitor doesn't work after creating a custom resolution to overclock the hz of the monitor?"

A: Any custom resolution/Hz setting may damage your monitor due to out of the operation range different from what the monitor has been designed for, and it may make your monitor out of warranty accordingly.

On discord, on blurbusters and on reddit I have not met one single person who could create a overclock in CRU in the non DSC mode of the pg248qp and proof this with a screenshot.
Its even worse then overclocking 360hz GSYNC monitors where it is possible as long as your pixel clock remains within 10 mhz of the monitor's max and modulating the vertical total. This is also not possible on the pg248qp .
At least I have not met a single person who can prove otherwise.

I'm waiting for RTX 5090, which will hopefully have DP 2.1, and then I'll get a 1440p 480 Hz OLED monitor with DP 2.1. DSC feels horrible. But I'm also one of those people who turn off variable refresh rate for the minuscule latency savings, so others might not be bothered by it.

Going to bump this, while I don't know exactly what's going on with DSC I will definitely agree that something feels off on my PG248QP with Gsync on as opposed to just native, even without ULMB. I just left ULMB on. It's easier to aim with GSYNC off and feels more responsive, but the latency differences according to reviews should be imperceptible.

Gsync looks better, but most definitely doesn't make up for how it feels. Had the same issue with Freesync.

Can't HDMI 2.1 also handle it? Do any monitors support HDMI 2.1 already?

HDMI 2.1 does not have enough bandwidth for QHD 480Hz without DSC.
UHBR20 (80GBps) should be more than enough however.
You can use this calculator to figure out the values:

looks like asus xg27aqdmg have same problem with DSC on. It's good that you can turn it off, but without it hdr colors looks bad (other than that, I only use it in single player games)
