Asus XG27AQDMG Discussion

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

OK, this was an error on my part. The 180Hz mode does not have VRR flicker. Ever. The EDID tweak doesn't matter at all. 180Hz is flicker-free out of the box.

I experimented some more in CRU, and I can get rid of the VRR flicker even at 240Hz by simply keeping the refresh rate (239.973Hz) and selecting "Exact" in "timings." This also lowers the pixel clock. The inability of test ufo to sync in the frame skip test though remains.
Go figure; some of it may be model/panel-dependent too.

Not sure why I didn't try this at first, but it's simply the vertical total that matters. Nothing else. Lower VT by 5 in "manual" settings mode, until it stops flickering in VRR.

That's about it, it seems :P

I have the FO32U2P. Can you tell me how to do this? If I click "edit" to the right of the monitor, it shows display properties with "range limits" at the bottom. I can change V rate and H rate on the low and and the high end. I can also change max pixel clock (which is set to 2340 mhz).

I can also go into detailed resolutions and double click the 4k resolution. It says timing "manual" at the top. The total field reads "4000 pixels" and "2222 lines". Which field do I change exactly?

You need to edit the mode you're interested in. From what I can tell, your display is 4K 240Hz, so find the 3840x2160 240Hz mode. It might be in one of the extension blocks if it's not in the detailed resolutions list. Note that it's probably not exactly 240. For me, it's 239.972, and it's in the extension block list, in the DisplayID entry.I double click that entry, and then a window opens and I double click the detailed resolutions entry in that window, then I double click the "2560x1440 @ 239.972Hz" entry (it's a 1440p display), and in there I switch from "Back porch" to "Total" which allows me to edit the second edit field in that row (the left field is the horizontal total, the right is the vertical total.)

I click "OK", and keep clicking "OK" in all the windows until CRU exits. Then I run "restart64.exe" (it comes with CRU) and test for VRR flicker. If it's still there, I repeat by lowering vertical total by another 5, until the flicker is gone.

Anyway, I don't know how solid this tweak is yet. I need to test a lot more, since changing timings like that might cause g-sync to have sync issues. Let us know if this works for you, and if it does, whether or not you see stutter at different FPS caps with g-sync.

I've included screenshots of my setup:

https://imgur.com/a/oLMF0fa

#1. It's a 240hz 4k monitor. I do see the 4k resolution under detailed resolutions. Do I edit that 4k resolution listed under detailed resolutions or do I double click the extension block? If I double click the extension block, you'll notice in the screenshot it only lists a 2560x1440 resolution for some reason? I'm using HDMI 2.1 to my 4080 Super.

#2. I double clicked the 4k resolution under detailed resolution and changed the total vertical lines to its lowest possible number (2168). I ran the VRR flicker test (https://github.com/MattTS01/VRR_Flicker_Test_OpenGL) and I still get flicker. If I turn off GSYNC (this monitor officially supports Freesync Premium Pro), it does get rid of the flicker when I test using that tool.

#3. How come the 4k resolution under detailed resolutions is listed at 59.996 Hz even though I have it set to 240hz in display settings?

#4. How come there's two FO32U2P monitors listed (only one shows active) in the screenshots?

I made sure to use restart64 after each CRU change before I ran the flicker test (although I didn't reboot). I also tried reducing the Freesync Range from 48-240hz all the way down to 1-240hz due to some other suggestions, and that also didn't work. I'm desperate to get rid of this flicker. I have about 2 weeks left on my return window, if I need to use it.

You are editing the wrong mode. You need to edit the 240Hz mode. It should be in the extension block. Open that, and there should be more detailed resolutions. 240Hz is probably in there.

You want the highest possible VT that doesn't have flicker, not the lowest. So lower it only by 10 each time until it stops the flicker.

Your monitor also supports 60Hz. What you're seeing is that 60Hz mode. The 240Hz should be in the extensions block.

Did you look at my screenshots link? There is no 240hz mode. In detailed resolutions, it's listed as 4k 59.996 in detailed resolutions, and it's listed as 1440p 119.997 hz under detailed resolutions when I double click the extension block.

You have not opened the extension block. You have only highlighted it. You need to double click the extension block in order to open it.

As a side note, to start over fresh again (to revert your wrong edits,) quit CRU, then run reset-all.exe, and then run restart64.exe. You can then edit the correct mode.

I did open the extension block. It's the 3rd screenshot from the top. I double clicked the only extension block (CTA-861). When I did this, it opens up a list of detailed resolutions. Only one resolution is listed: 2560x1440 * 119.997 HZ. This is after I used the reset-all.exe file and the restart64.exe file.
