I wish mine was even normal at the beginning.

I've had PC's/Laptops run perfectly fine on the same internet, but for some reason my last few have been terrible. Including a laptop that when you first boot windows onto it, it would run games perfect, then as soon as you reboot, it goes back to awful.

I just don't get what seems to cause this, especially when it happens to me in offline modes as well.

What do I think? It's the Internet.

The packets (UDP) do not reach the server in a "clean flow" and/or do not arrive in the correct order (e.g. due to jitter). This means that the game server receives your packages but has to delete them because they don't make any sense.

Example: The UDP packet arrives that reports to your client that the opponent is dead. But the packages with the shots did not arrive (just as an example)

If you want to use VDSL here, you can choose from 1000 different ISPs, but you are always on the German Telekom line (FTTC). I suspect that during higher loads (prime time, weekends, holidays, etc.) they activate a system that makes my ping lower but triggers this "behind the server" feeling.

Then there is DOCSIS (permanently malfunctioning) which actually works well, but is owned by Vodafone. They are not fixing the infrastructure (back channel strengthening for ~7-8 years).

LTE, 4G and 5G seem to be overloaded.

With FTTH XGS-PON it is the worst. The enemies don't walk around, they teleport.

So far only StarLink has worked well, but I can't set it up here because it is obscured but needs 360° visibility.
Also 100% its the internet in my case, have you tried Mudfish VPN? The only major difference between Mudfish and all the VPNs you listed is that mudfish is more in depth and gives you alot more options in the case that you can select multiple different single nodes to route your UDP game packets through. The behind the server issue is very prevalent in Valorant for me, some games I become insane and unhittable while majority is me reaction like a grandpa on the enemies' screen while I get ferrari peeked on mine.

Mudfish fixed most of my desync after I set it up correctly. I connect it through a node in Singapore (server I play on, I'm from Cambodia) in which the node VPS company, very important! = has a physical data center in my country. You'll have to do some research about the nodes available to you in your country just as I did. Mudfish is also very cheap as you only have to pay per traffic, and it just reroutes game packets instead of a full-vpn style.

Give it a try guys and tell me how it went. No hurt in trying since we explored every single thing on every forums lol.
I downloaded mudfish yesterday and give it a try. Im from germany, its so hard to play from here, i have 4 ping ftth and still struggle! I let node on auto, muffish peeks the lowest rtt. I cant find the node with physical data center here. I hit better and play better. My ping is still 4! And i dont know if i set it up correctly xD

Its relativelly easy... Its primarily the JITTER which is not compensated any ways and puts you behind (unlike ping which is). The client will buffer to compensate the jitter but the buffer wont get compensated by server so it puts only you behind (and you cant disable it). AND secondary reason is anything else - hardware, display, peripherials, high ping difference between players.... Now i have 610hz monitor, 9800X3D + good GPU, logitech X2 superstrike + drunkdeer A75 Ultra keyboard and if the opponents have 20ms max, i dont feeel any behind feeling. When i switch to laptop at the same place, its behind, when i play at friends home who doesnt have such good rig, its behind. When i play vs 50ms turks, im behind as they are desynced. I simply have less time to react.

So the guide...

The rig:

0) Is your PC fully debloated, tuned and free from any clutter? No? Clean it.
1) Does your PC have weaker CPU than 9800X3D or 9950/5/X3D? Yes? You will be behind others who have one these CPUs.
2) Do you have 540-1000hz monitor? NO? You will be behind others which do.

Now the connection:

1) LTE or "5G" - trash, forget, but at least its funny as you are lagging for your opponents too).
2) DSL - trash, jitter, forget - even if you reduce rates manually - only asus + vigor routers know it - this reduces jitter but doesnt nullify it).
3) GPON fiber - usually the worse choice as the GPONs have sometimes RIDICULOUSLY bad parameters (ftth with 5ms jitter is sad). Some are OK but the providers know crap about their own service and if you dont see green straight zero line in your netgraph, you are doomed.
4) Classic fiber or good PtP radio - more expensive and less common, but capable to generate ZERO jitter (1ms jitter is playable, 2ms and worse is already noticable). Again, you need straight green zero line in netgraph. Anything else = your incompensated delay.

Now the server:

Is the server performant enough, with no server sided jitter, No? You will be behind peekers more than usually + feeling uncomfortable (delayed hitreg, delayed movement, icy skating, rubberbanding, increased peekers advantage, increased laggers advantage...).

Now an example - CS2 servers (other games are different, less server-demanding, but cs2 is a speciality, sensible to jitter, servers,CPU cache, everything):
Remember - during prime time, most servers fall into trash tier category

Trash tier category servers (EU for example) -
Valve officials: London, Lagszawa, Frankfurt (during prime time spikes). Only Vienna /except some evenings/ and Madrid are usually OK.
Faceit: Germany: all hosted by Hetzner, most Hiperz servers , Most Netherlands, some France, all London (London has issues with routing anywhere, ban it unless you are from GB).

Now the opponents:

The higher is their ping and lag, the more you will feel behind due to lagcompensation desync. Dodge high pingers if possible. Play with nearest players as much as possible. Valid in any game (CS2, valorant, apex...). High ping difference will always bring issues and break the gameplay.

I don't get what this guy is trying to say. Is everyone supposed to buy a 9800X3D just to fix input lag? Is this a joke, trolling, or is he serious? No way, it has to be a joke. :lol:

It aint this since my old laptop that I don't use anymore with an i5-6400u or whatever it is and integrated graphics isn't behind the servers, but my ryzen 5 7500f, 9060xt, 32gb ddr5 system is...?

What is "Classic fiber" ??

Fiber can either be EPON, GPON or XGS-PON for regular consumers in EU. I am not aware of any Passive Optical Network (PON) technologies that is called "Classic Fiber". Please explain what do you mean

I meant classic old style when people were connected trough SFP modules in smart switches directly to opposite SFP module at providers side again in some local smart multislot SFP switch (and very often combined with 1gbps local ethernet as a last mile and handover interface from smart local switch somewhere in basement). It was a little bit less reliable as it was prone to power outages, but for gaming this connection was way better than PON which is from my point of view a slight downgrade (more reliable but there is always a milisecond or two added in term of ping and jitter).

oh yeah, i see what you mean now. in Belgium this was never available to "normal" customers but i know that some hospitals, banks, airports, etc do have this technology available for them.

At work we called this (P2P - Point to Point) which is essentially a dedicated fiber directly between the provider's central office and your location. Are you sure that you used at some point this kind of technology? Is it extremely restricted to very specific uses here, nobody can access it here except if you are worth multi million dollars...

Btw i agree that PON is definitely not the best fiber optic system. And i wouldn’t call it more reliable either, there are tons of issues. But it is the one that can fill up ISP's pockets the fastest; you can literally split A SINGLE Pon link to 32 to 64 customers -- that is 2,5 Gbps down 1,25Gbps UP shared across 64 houses.... so no wonder why all the money hungry ISPs corporates moved to use it...
