Hey thanks for the reply!
So does that trick need to be done before or after using the strobe utility? Should I just reset all settings and do your steps first?

I don't use the strobe utility. I use the service menu. The strobe utility does the same thing as the service menu does, except it has limited strobe phase adjustments (to prevent the "black screen 0 persistence" issue if the strobe phase exceeds 050 at 120hz or 059 at 100 hz, when using Vertical total 1500 tweak).
The two hidden AMA settings (Blur reduction + AMA high, and Blur reduction + AMA premium --notice that these are set or toggled AFTER blur reduction is enabled) are reset back to the defaults (Blur reduction/High and Blur reduction/premium) whenever the following changes are made;
1) strobe duty (persistence)
2) strobe phase (crosstalk)
3) brightness (but not contrast).
4) refresh rate or resolution changes.
If you already have AMA on high, the easiest way to get the hidden AMA Setting is to enable blur reduction, go to Picture menu, scroll to AMA, press enter ONCE so AMA high is highlighted, then either press "BACK" but NOT enter (easiest) or go to AMA off or premium then back to high (then press enter). For some reason, pressing "enter" on a selection that was already selected before, does absolutely nothing (could be a minor firmware bug), while pressing "back" after entering the AMA menu 'retoggles' the AMA setting (and activates the hidden settings).
You'll know you did it correctly because on this page:
http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&phot ... &height=-1
You'll see the ghosting "refresh" toggle as if a frame froze temporarily.

so you think v4 makes sense if one does not use 60hz strobe and doesnt want to go below contrast 43 in mbr mode?
Falkentyne wrote:Just to add, what I was talking to masterotaku about.
Using the new AMA removes most of the inverse ghosting, but actually -intensifies- normal ghosting on some color transitions (not visible on test ufo's alien invasion, but highly visible in call of duty black ops, when looking at telephone pole wires against a grey cloudy sky). To fix this, drop the contrast to 10 or lower. 10 will have very faint ghosting, while 0 will have virtually NO ghosting at all (will be identical to VG248QE's lightboost).
(Using contrast 0 with normal BBR, without using the new AMA, will, on the COD black ops 1 example, show "transparent/translucent ghosting on the telephone wires (they will appear faint spectral (!) white instead of faint dark). Then you can toggle to new AMA and see the spectral ghosting completely vanish.
...
*Edit*
Tested new premium more carefully (turn on MBR, then set AMA to premium).
Premiums inverse is slightly reduced after doing this. Looks better than V2's original AMA high (same amount of inverse ghosting, normal ghosting toned down on many transitions. Did NOT test normal ghosting; no idea if 43 contrast will be ok or not).

Yes, as I said the 24" panels are different from the 27" panels.
V2 still has too much ghosting on the 24" screens.
Gamma drops lower the higher the refresh rate on all the 24" screens (happens on the VG248QE) but you can adjust for that somewhat in the benq OSD, at least.
You don't need to drop contrast in the new AMA on the 24". That's only for the 27", which is a different panel with different calibrations.
Maybe you can ask masterotaku to take a picture of the new AMA setting on the xl2411z ? Either way, it's very definitely worth flashing

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Thanks again. So I did what you said and saw the blip on the ufo page. So I can't use the strobe utility or service menu options without resetting back to the default? Version 4 just has an improved "standard" mode so to speak?

You can enter the service menu but any change to any strobing value resets the AMA back.
Same for brightness. Contrast and Gamma adjustments do not revert the AMA. No idea if color balance changes do it or not.
I just talked to masterotaku and he took some pictures.
assuming the xl2411z and 2420z have the exact same overdrive parameters (it's still unknown if that's the case but it might be since it is the same panel), the hidden AMA high on the xl2411z looks identical to the default AMA high on the XL2720Z, and the 2720Z's hidden ama high reverses the inverse ghosting (which wasn't very bad on V4 but bad on V2) and turns it into normal ghosting (which can be removed by contrast=0).
So yes, definitely update and use it.
I have NO idea why benq made the hidden AMA look so good without drawbacks (no need to drop the contrast) but NOT as the default setting on the 11Z but made the 2720Z's default ama look like the 2411z's hidden AMA. They should have made it default. :/
They moved the V2's default AMA (high) overdrive settings on the 2720Z, to "hidden" premium AMA setting on V4. While I'd never use it, it's still as usable as V2 was. The default premium, however, is bad.
No idea what premium hidden or default looks like on 11Z or 2420Z. Must be bad...

Copy-pasting the PM I sent Falkentyne before:
I took these at 100Hz (strobe duty 005, strobe phase 055 and 960px/s), as you requested, and at 2448x3264:
- At the top:
http://i.cubeupload.com/yxOZ91.jpg . Sorry about the blurriness. The inverse ghosting is visible, just image the picture without any motion blur

. This zone would be better with less overdrive.
- At the middle (well, it covers a big zone from top tp bottom):
http://i.cubeupload.com/y9Sn9x.jpg . The best picture I took today. You can see how the inverse ghosting gets fainter when it goes near the bottom.
- Almost at the bottom:
http://i.cubeupload.com/GpjJhW.jpg .
- At the bottom:
http://i.cubeupload.com/GmhIRW.jpg . I took this one at 120Hz (sd 003 and sp 047) after realizing the previous one didn't catch the last row (or maybe I missed two). It looks blurry but I took it just so you can see the crosstalk.

Can I upgrade a xl2411z v3 to v4? Does anyone have before and after pics of the AMA? I can't stand the blue trails, even on high AMA I get it pretty badly.

Yea of course you can.
You can even downgrade or upgrade from V1.
It's not like the old Abit BH6 where if you flashed from GY Bios back to FU, the BIOS would brick (for some reason) and you would have to hotswap and reflash the bricked chip again and then it would work (apparently the award flasher itself would 'crash' halfway during the flash due to some strange code change in the FU Bios that worked if you flashed forwards (to a newer bios) but not backflashed...).
I doubt anyone here remembers that though....
And masterotaku uploaded pictures of the new AMA mode on V4 already
And there are pictures of V2 AMA all over. Check masterotaku's thread on the VT 1500 tweak for a good picture.
Here's one from V2.
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=560
The V4 pics are right above my post.
V4's default AMA high on xl2411z seems to be unchanged from V2. No idea if this applies for 2420Z but 2720Z's default was changed to look like 2411z's new hidden AMA high.

Not sure where else to post this question.
I want to use Blur Reduction but it's unusable @ 60hz due to it's flicker. Now, what I tried here was turning on Blur Reduction and then I went to Service Menu and turned off Single Strobe. This brought a huge difference related to flicker but that's "disabled" as soon as I touch anything in the Blur Reduction tool which is fine. If I set it right first, then turn off Single Strobe it brightens the screen little too and apparently I'm now set.
There is a difference, when I turn off Blur Reduction it becomes a tad brighter again so Blur Reduction must be enabled? Is this how you're meant to use Blur Reduction at low Hz?
