I was to believe Windows 7 was fine for 1000Hz mice, but it was Windows 8.1 that started causing problems?

Hmm, perhaps it is the mouse drivers that override the setting in Windows 7. My friend's Cyborg R.A.T 7 supposedly was the same. All I know is my mouse was rated to run at much higher than 125Hz, yet that's what it was locked at in Windows 7 for me. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate but I believe it affects all versions of Windows 7.

500hz is fine for lightboost, it wont make any noticeable difference, stutter from game engine or graphics driver is more of a problem.
But wireless mouse is bad for gaming, extra weight and even more latency.

I highly doubt logitech made avago/pixart fix modern laser sensor architecture issue which makes sensor have tracking eror of + - 5% from perfect 100% tracking. No one who can test good or notice accel is reporting that there's no such problem with g500s/g700s.

Also 98xx sensor's 1st firmware had major input lag issue, g500s had(45ms delay, at time of takasta's review) and no idea how good they fixed it(its surely not as responsive as old mice with low dpi). I would not recommend buying g700s to anyone.

My Roccat Lua (25€ including shipping and VAT) works at 1000Hz on Windows 7 (verified with the MarkC Mouse Movement Recorder). I don't think there's a 125Hz limitation on Windows.

Could you be more specific Ewok on what version of Windows you are running?

This is managaged by the hardware itself. The USB port is set to 1000Hz by the mouse. This happens before Windows even loads a mouse driver. However, this is up to the mouse. If the manufacturer decided to make 125Hz the default and then require an external configuration tool to switch to other polling rates, then of course you'll get 125Hz if you don't install the vendor's tool/driver.

I have a G400 and it sets the USB port to 1000Hz even without booting Windows at all. Linux reports 1000Hz. Note that Linux does not have vendor-specific mouse drivers. There's only one mouse driver that is used for all USB HID compatible mice, and it uses whatever polling rate the USB port currently is set to.
