any benefit from strobing at 390hz in battlefield 4 @ 1600x1024 ALL LOW -mesh quality ULTRA. = yes there is a benefit, in this game only. HOWEVER, AT the cost of screen tearing.. compared to gsync... Now, I have been using Gsync modules for years ever since the pg279q. I am confident to say that Gsync Compatible modules are never as smooth as the real Gsync module. I know Chief said this once in some older thread but he was not entirely sure. Yes, I am pretty sure that it is deff not as good as the real deal module.. even at 360hz, even at 390hz.
Is this panel better than my Predator x25 360hz ?? or perhaps the Alienware 360hz ? well. Chief made a great point in this thread about how strobing is not optimal when frames would drop below 390hz. I play single player games too, not just Battlefield 4, although that is the only multiplayer game I play and I can get 390+ fps uncapped no problem with the 5800x and 3080.. But is it worth it over the x25 ? is it worth dropping the legit Gsync module at 360hz ? Eh well. Chiefs' points are all valid about how difficult it is to maintain that fps, OUTSIDE of battlefield 4. I know hes right. Even with a top end rig. I would also like to add that when using the Ghosting spaceship test here with the 390hz panel set to 390, if I turn VRB on and then change the hz to 360hz, you can clearly see the clarity of the spaceships degrade. Lower than 360hz ? worse. 240hz ? worse. 144hz ? unbearable. So yeah, Chief pretty much hit the nail on the head here with the photo showing degradation in clarity of the ships.
@ms potatoe Please. What do you think about motion clarity without vrb, ghosting, overshoot?. It appears to have only three overdrive levels.
With which monitors can you compare it?
well ms potatoe, the next level down is of course the x25, alienware 360, and the pg259qn. I have tried all 3 and liked the x25 the most ( best colors + max brightness mode which enables 400nits+, the other two don't have that so they are darker )..
on the 390hz, without VRB? well without VRB or Gsync compatible, you have nothing at all which is just screen tear city when the fps drops lower than 390hz. Like I was saying about gsync compatible though, its just not as smooth as real gsync. Its like.. the short-cutted weak version.....Overdrive works on VRB yes, gsync compatible does not.
@discorz, normal VRB mode 390hz I would say OD1. However, we have to keep in mind that during that ghosting test, its set to 390hz and that fps does not drop during the test. So in game, when the fps drops, it may get a lot worse. Like Chief was saying, hes 100% right about that..
all in all I still have the x25 360hz. Due to these issues here, I may just keep the x25. I have a few more days to fully decide before creating the return rma with acer store. But I am confident that 360hz x25 with real gsync may very much be the best option here.. Also, one more thing about the 390hz is that stand. If you want to pull it closer to your face like a cs go pro, that stand is in the way. Nothing a good ole vesa mount couldn't handle but.. the round stand is big so it has to be back further on the desk.
