Halloechen!

Backround:

My last monitor was the PG259QN. One of the first 360hz monitors, certainly the first rendition from Asus. So that is what i am comparing it to. I bought this monitor mostly for competitive Valorant. I am Immortal 2. I have a high end rig and hit above 540fps pretty much at all times.

So here are my 24 hour impressions:

I tested 540hz with OD on normal. The smoothness is definitly noticeable compared to my last monitor. The Image is clearer and tracking feels more fluid. After my first session i switched to ULMB2 (PW100). The brightness is sufficient and at no times i had the feeling the monitor is too dark. I had no signs of eye strain even after 2-3 hours of playing. The image feels even clearer and stable with almost no ghosting. Certainly the best i have seen on any monitor i came across.

I have no creaking or popping on my OSD joystick. Navigating the menu works fine and every setting i tested works as intended. I had no cut outs, blackscreens, bluescreens or anything like that(gsync disabled). The fan is noticeable if u are in a totally quite room and can annoy sensitive ears. As soon as u have some sound on ur speakers or headphones on u cannot pick it up.

I seem to have slight pressure spots on the very left and right side of the monitor. They are however not as noticeable as what user @lleie did post. I will try the brake-in method and report if anything changes.

I mounted the monitor to an arm with m4x15mm standoff screws. Works just fine and there is plenty of space now for the fan to pull air from.

To those of you that do not have the popping noise when the OSD joystick is moved to the left, does the joystick still feel loose?

I've gone from the ASUS XG27AQM to the LG 27GR95QE since January and tried my hand with this monitor for about 3 hours before returning it.

I'm an OLED fanatic and can't wait for the new AW2725DF hopefully shipping in about a month from now but after using the PG248QP at 540Hz with ULMB2 I'm a bit shook you could say. And yes, it does have annoying coil whine with ULMB2 active.

I experienced all of the same issues that you all are having with the most distracting being the OSD joystick popping when moved left. Aside from all of these issues, the motion clarity is next level and when I went back to my LG 27GR95QE it looked like a blurry mess at 240Hz.

There is a bit of a deadzone in each direction but once u push further it "clicks" and registers the input. There is still some looseness after the click. This behavior is the same on my older PG259QN so i figure it works as intended.

Sidenote: There is a sticker on my retail box which says "QC passed"

Bad thing is that the monitor needs DSC enabled for all resolutions above 360hz
I don't even know why this monitor is DP 1.4 instead of 2.0, let alone HDMI 2.1. Given it's price point that shouldn't have been on the cutting board.

So I got mine yesterday and somethings I've noticed. The orange/yellow hue people are talking about surrounding text when you scroll is there, but it's also present in game when looking at very fast moving things, like in Overwatch. It's like they're trailed by a yellowish outline when moving around. You get used to it after a bit, but I immediately noticed after swapping from a XF252Q. Overdrive makes this infinitely more noticeable at esports and then extreme.

Furthermore it seems as though the motion clarity on this monitor isn't really good till you turn it up to esports or extreme, contrary to what reviews are stating, that 'normal' is the sweet spot. I'm finding it relatively ironic. There is a pretty stark contrast between esports and extreme verses normal, which shouldn't be there at all. When you turn it up to esports and especially extreme things become very clear and crisp, as is you dial up the sharpness a lot. It's like what the monitor should be or somewhere close to it. The yellow hue that follows things around in motion becomes much more extreme though as well.

I'm starting to wonder if the reviewers were given special samples and they had to dial back the overdrive for the normal mode because the panels weren't up to par.

For comparison turning on ULMB does almost nothing, but changing overdrive is immediately very noticeable.

If you own one, please also take a look at the OD modes and compare the motion clarity.

It think ULMB2 is superior in every way. This is easily verifiable by running the UFO test. Especially since OD gives u that yellow hue i dont see any reason using it if u have sufficient fps to run ULMB2.

So the pressure spots i was talking about earlier, they didnt vanish although i ran this monitor for almost 72 hours non stop. I think it is just backlight bleeding which most TN panels suffer from when i remember correctly. It is however only ever visable when im on desktop on plain black and greyish areas. I couldnt make it out in game at all (valorant). So this and the yellow hue in OD mode are probably my biggest cons everything else works great.

For Apex and PUBG I have the following settings:

ULMB2 on
Pulse Width 100
Gamevisual GSYNC Esports then choose Darkboost 3
Brightness 100
Contrast 50
Display Color Space: Wide Gamut
Color Temp 6500
Six axis Saturation
R 250
G 250
B 250
C 250
M 250
Y 225
Gamma 2.2
DP SDR YCbCR sRGB Gamma on
Power Setting: Standard mode

In NVIDIA ctrl panel Override to reference mode cause I use the driver and color profile from the ASUS site. ( Just like on the Zowie monitors)

Def need some more tweaks buts its a start.

Oh U can actually move the crosshair with the joystick.

Glad I found this thread. I also got the pressure spots on my unit after a day of use, and I'd say a sample size of 3 in this thread among users who dropped $900 on this monitor implies significant QC issues across the board. Actually disgusting that Asus is charging $900 for this trash.

Typical Asus I guess
