Anyone know with a 2546k if the display scaler will be better than a 3080? Also do I use no scaling or full screen?

from my understanding displayscaler gives less lag.,

There should be no latency difference between NVCP scaling modes at native resolution, since neither the monitor scaler nor GPU will be used to "scale" said native resolution.

I just tested my PG27AQN (1440p 360Hz native G-SYNC) with an LDAT (top left corner of screen - where the scanout starts - using its test app, which flashes from black to white), and there's virtually no measurable difference between the NVCP scaling modes for me (40 samples per scenario):

Display, No scaling (Override the scaling mode set by games and programs)

avg - 20.5ms
min - 15.9ms
max - 25.3ms

GPU, No scaling (Override the scaling mode set by games and programs)

avg - 20.4ms
min - 16.2ms
max - 25.3ms

It was the same whether I had the Aspect ratio or Full screen scaling options applied for either the Display or GPU mode.

There should only be latency differences between Display and GPU scaling when you're monitor is set to a lower non-native resolution, the differences of which can depend on your particular monitor model's scaler (in Display scaling mode) and/or your GPU (in GPU scaling mode).

I don’t think so, the scaler is quite bad. With cru you can get it nicer looking but still not as smooth as with gpu scaling. If you ever find out how to get it better pls let me know!

By this logic, would you agree that if Im using a 3080, and a 4k Neo G7 165hz, Display scaling/no-scaling/override would make sense over GPU scaling/no-scaling/override?

Display scaling used to add at least 1 frame of processing time, so a 60 Hz display would display the same image 16.66 ms later. No idea how more modern display handle this.

I'm interested in knowing this as well as a prospective Neo G7 buyer.
I'm currently on a G34WQC (ultrawide) on a 4090. Settings are No Scaling - Display. This is because the only game I'm going to play at a lower resolution is CS2 and for that I don't want it to scale up but to just display the resolution as is, centered.

Now, I can confirm Display Scaling is working properly, if I go to the OSD it shows the resolution I'm playing at which is 2560 x 1440. It both looks and feels absolutely perfect, no input lag whatsoever (perceived). I'm guessing because there isn't any actual scaling going on am I correct? Since it's displaying the resolution "as is" without scaling it to fill the screen or anything like that.

Just want to make sure if this is the correct idea?

What i still cant understand is why ticking *No scaling* while playing 1080p Valorant on a 1080p display no matter the scaling method - stills feels weird. This is no placebo. Its so obvious that ppl can just recreate and test it on the fly..

It's definitely not placebo. I believe this happens because when selecting it, the setting 'Perform scaling on:' is still appearing and can be changed, what makes no sense. I think It could be fixed by removing 'perform scaling on' and leave 'disable scaling mode set by games and programs' checked, just like with integer scaling.
