I have a partial fix for some games that are stuck at 60hz and its fairly quick to test.

Set the game to the max resolution you want to play at (lets say 2560x1440), save, then exit. At your desktop, set the resolution lower than your max, or at least lower than the game is set at (lets say 1080p). Now start the game (1440p) and ALT+TAB out of the game and back to your desktop, change your desktop resolution to the max refresh for the same resolution that the game is set at (lets say 2560x1440@120hz) and click ok and yes to save it. Now click the game icon on your taskbar and see if it increased the refresh rate. It has worked for me in several games, not at all in many others.

A good way to test it is to set your global VSync to "ON" in CCC or NVIDIA Control Panel and set it to off in-game, then use an FPS counter like FRAPs or something similar. If it goes from being locked at 60, then 120 or anything higher than 60 after the ALT+TAB workaround then its working. If its still stuck at 60, then its not working.

If this is something that works with several games, here's a new technique:
1. Load ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility (or use NVIDIA's "Create Custom Resolution" button via NVIDIA Control Panel)
2. Create a 1920x1079 resolution running at 120Hz. Don't create any 60Hz mode.
3. Launch the game. Select 1920x1079. Game is forced to run at 120Hz because 60Hz doesn't even exist.

Note: For LightBoost monitors, you can even make 1920x1079 always have LightBoost if you use a Vertical Total of 1147 when creating the Custom Resolution via either ToastyX or via NVIDIA Control Panel. This is another technique of forcing LightBoost to be enabled. ToastyX Strobelight can still keep working (but only during 1920x1080), but for those stubborn games that you always want to turn OFF lightboost (use Vertical Total 1125 in custom resolution) or always want to turn ON lightboost (use Vertical Total 1147 in custom resolution) while also simultaneously forcing 120Hz, this is a solution for those games that stubbornly refuse to run at 120Hz. That said, not all games will run at a full 120fps whenever it is forced to run at 120Hz, but this will work for at least some.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is locked at 30 FPS and flickers a bit with G-Sync enabled. I find it's best to play w/ V-Sync rather than G-Sync

I actually noticed the flickering for the first time while watching an episode of South Park a couple days ago. It's only on the left side of the monitor, covering maybe 20% of the screen and the inversion pattern is much more visible there as well.

Yeah that's exactly the behavior I've noticed too. That's really funny that it's present in the TV show as well.

It's not directly connected to the game/show at all, it's just a side affect of the <30 Hz automatic refresh behavior of G-sync. The solid colors used in animation probably make it more visible than it would be otherwise, however.

Oh, I thought you meant you were watching on TV and noticed it, I guess you were watching on your PC

Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance

I was about to buy this and decided to check Steam Community posts first. Glad I did.

First issue is it is refresh locked to 50hz.
Second issue is that its max resolution is 1080p.
Third issue is that the 1080p resolution is apparently a scaled 720p internal resolution only. (unsure if there is proof of this or not)
Fourth issue is that it is not correctly scaled to the right 16:10 aspect ratio on monitors that use a native 16:10 ratio, instead there are only black bars.

There is apparently a fix for the resolution that involves changing a value in the game file, but it is unclear if any new resolutions just continue to "upscale" the native/internal 720p resolution. Also it is unclear if the 50hz refresh rate can be changed. Steam community suggested playing in windowed mode, but others complained that it causes screen tearing in windowed mode at 60hz, meaning it was still locked to 50hz.

NFS rivals fix:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xcbNSwbpPU

Now we can get rid of the 30 FPS cap without screwing up the game, but whatever FPS you pick you need to make sure you never drop under i as it will make the game sluggish.

So 120 FPS is possible as long as you can run at that speed consistently.
