The highest vertical total I got at 60hz was 4380 anything higher got a blank screen using Nvidia control panel, but I can't imagine it looking any better. Would cru provide different results?
Easiest way to create Large Vertical Totals is based on an existing working mode.
1. Use ToastyX
2. Load the working 240 Hz mode
3. Put radio control on "Vertical Total" and "Pixel Clock"
4. Manually type a new number in Vertical Total until you see target Hz (never edit Hz directly manually, you have to edit Vertical Total to create the new Hz. Increase VT to decrease Hz).

You can use NVIDIA Control Panel by multiplying the original refresh rate vertical total by (OrigHz/TargetHz). So multiply by 4 if you're going from 240Hz to 60Hz with all the other numbers in CRU untouched (except Vertical Total and Hz). Pixel Clock and Horizontal Scanrate remains exactly the same as original working max-Hz resolution.

If you wish, you can first create the most reduced-blanking possible max-Hz mode, before deriving from it, but I just use create my custom QFT modes from the standard 240Hz EDID.

Update: I made a new thread:
HOWTO: Quick Frame Transport (Large Vertical Totals)

Eventually I'll create a Large Vertical Total Wizard to make things easier, at least until manufacturers build in a QFT (Quick Frame Transport) option into monitor menus to activate Plug-n-Play QFT EDIDs on a single button press. That could make CRU tweaking obsolete for QFT someday.

This is the Amazon US store for monitor.
www.amazon.com/dp/B097S9SYM5

For European users, copy and paste this affiliated link:

Code: Select all

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097S9SYM5?tag=blurbust-20
Right now (Aug 8th) it is sold out, but that is where XG2431 is on Amazon.

Thanks for the heads up, Chief :)

I can get the product page to load on Amazon US, Mexico or Canada (currently out of stock, as you said).

However there currently doesn't appear to be a product page set up for the European Amazon sites.

I tested Amazon UK, Spain, France, Sweden, Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands - all no product pages.

Out of curiosity I also tested Brazil, China, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, and UAE - all no product pages either.

Unfortunately without a product page I can't set up a stock alert, so I've just bookmarked the product page for my country for now.

144 Hz QFT (Large Vertical Totals)
144hz QFT.jpg

99.8% sure you either posted the wrong screenshot for 144hz, or you used a VT so far the monitor went back to stock.
That 144hz shot looks like my XL2720Z without a VT Tweak.

I doublechecked and you might be correct -- I'm able to get a better looking 144Hz QFT mode. All the other photos appear to be in sync with what I am getting on my XG2431.

I definitely should automatically display the vertical total at the top of the UFO swarm photo, as a verification measure. At least we know that it's definitely running a specific VT (or not).

If someone is curious, Amazon US changed my arriving date between Sep 6 and Oct 18.

Mine doesn't even say anything now. Went from nothing, to 1-2 months, to nothing again :|

Edit: Nevermind, just got an email: between September 3 and October 5.

if you're setting resolution inside a game menu is there any way to tell the QFT custom resolutions from the stock ones or do you have to create say, 119hz or 61hz, etc, so you can differentiate? i guess just setting the desktop mode before loading the game would be the easiest thing but was curious. thanks

From now on, please ask QFT questions in the QFT thread. Thank you.

Generally you have to replace a Hz with a QFT version of the same Hz, you can't have a QFT and a non-QFT version of the same Hz at the same time (until monitor manufacturers add a menu setting "Quick Frame Transport: ON/OFF" to swap sets of EDIDs, much like FreeSync ON/OFF already does). Also, full detail RTSS statistics displays can show the vertical total size too.

P.S. The good news is with XG2431, there's no need for magic numbers like 119 Hz (for the earlier XG270, it was an feature-by-accident that 119Hz sometimes had the least strobe crosstalk). Monitors that support Strobe Utility permits a full continuum of fully-tuned Hz at any Hz you want, so you can do 59Hz 60Hz 61Hz practically as perfectly as each other, or 119Hz 120Hz 121Hz practically as perfectly as each other. Or any sub-Hz increment like 59.94 Hz or 119.88 Hz

It would appear that you are correct, I found a vertical total that didn't force an out of range error, but instead made it perform as if it was using the stock vertical total. I played with resolution settings some more and eventually settled on a VT of 1900 before I got tired of swapping refresh rates back and forth to see how much extra performance I could squeeze out. Doing quick comparisons, it's only a little worse than what I'm seeing with my 120hz settings, which tracks with the gradual loss of perfection you see as you inch away from 60hz and approach the maximum refresh the monitor is capable of. I think 120hz is right about on the verge of losing that CRT "glass smooth" effect in real content.
