Re: BenQ XL2420G Release Info
That's very good to hear. Though I wonder why you wrote in the review that you prefer to play FPS games in Classic Mode, then. The whole point of GSYNC is mainly to allow the 40-55 range to feel smoother when the frame drops from 60, but RTS and MOBA games aren't really intensive enough for that problem to kick in.
The main difference of GSYNC should be visible with more intensive games such as FPS, Action/Adventure, RPGs etc. You said something along the lines of "you need to limit FPS to 135 to avoid input lag", but performance intensive games such as Crysis 3, Assassin's Creed Unity, Dragon Age: Inquisition etc. will never reach even 100 with maxed settings, so that's not an issue.

Good stuff! Thanks a lot for the info.hbjdk wrote:I e-mailed BenQ a few days ago, asking when it would become available in Denmark, Europe.whitestar wrote:And where is the XL2720G? Lost in another dimension?
Here's the reply I got:
"Thanks for asking! Today I have no confirmed date when we will launch this product in Denmark or Europe (launch will be at the same time across Europe). Target is during Q1 2015."
Then I asked about the XL2420G release date and got this reply:
"Plan is during December
The design will be same as current Z-series (XL2420Z) but with GSync added"

So far it looks like the xl2420g is nearly twice the price of the xl2420z. I continue to wonder if the xl2420g is really worth it?

The early reviews are good. This monitor is mostly great if you also want to play console games via HDMI, since every other GSYNC monitor only allows Display Port.smbrm wrote:So far it looks like the xl2420g is nearly twice the price of the xl2420z. Re: BenQ XL2420G Release Info
I don't play console games and am primarily playing rfactor2. My current monitor is a Samsung 204b TN panel and I can't say I have ever really noticed any tearing or stuttering, but then I probably don't have the detail really cranked either. But I could have 2x 2420z for less than the price of one 2420g. There must be a lot of nvidia licensing in the price in addition to the hardware? The 2420g also has the ability to play in classic 2420z mode, however if you end up defaulting to the classic mode I would think you may have been better off going with the 2420z in the first place?? And then one could easily envision a 3 panel setup for only slightly more than a 2420g!
Appreciate any further thoughts!
Ps. I wonder if you can mix a centre 2420g on gsync with 2420z side screens not gsync on a. 3 monitor setup? Probably wouldn't work ?

To support a three-panel setup (for NVIDIA Surround, I assume) you would also need a massively powerful PC, not to mention that many games have issues in Surround mode.smbrm wrote:I don't play console games and am primarily playing rfactor2. If you don't notice tearing or stuttering then indeed, GSYNC may not be very useful to you, but quite honestly I don't know how this is possible. Tearing and/or stuttering are some of the worst problems in most games nowadays.
Just read this thread, currently on the first page of Neogaf (one of the most popular boards for hardcore gaming discussion), titled "G-Sync is the god-level gaming upgrade": http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=939724

Re: BenQ XL2420G Release Info
I recently bought this monitor, and its been an amazing upgrade over my previous. 144hz+gsync is pretty amazing.
Can someone tell me what/how i should configure and calibrate this monitor so i get the most use out of this? im pretty new to configuring monitors, so any help would be appreciated. I was thinking of using an benq Xl2420Z icc profile from tftcentral, since it is the same panel correct? would there be anything else i could do?

It's the same panel, but you have to remember that 2 of the same panels may have different default calibrations, even if they're the exact same model. I've seen reviews of the 2720Z saying that gamma 1 is 2.2, while on other units (Including mine), gamma 4 is closer to 2.2, and gamma 3 overshoots too much (dropping to 1.8 in some brightness rages) compared to gamma 4.
You have to test the settings yourself in standard mode, find out what seems most accurate on the lagom gamma and color tests, then use those results as a baseline for your calibrations (if you're trying to drop the delta down to 2.5 and improve the white point, etc).
The Gsync module doesn't have a scaler and probably uses different calibrations than Z mode. Adjustments are more limited in gsync mode, but from what I've seen, Benq has far more options in their Gsync mode than the Rog Swift has (Rog only has overdrive, RGB colors, contrast and brightness).

Would you happen to know where i could find a beginners guide to calibrating the monitor? that would really help
