Thanks for you all sharing, due to Benq Taiwan hasn't support V2 firmware service, I followed this discussion and try to upgrade my XL2420Z and it works. :D

I use 75ohm resistor and c33725 transistor and it's working fine when upgrading V2 firmware.

Great that it works! Now you can use the Blur Busters Strobe Utility!

For people who haven't obtained the monitor yet, BENQ is now shipping monitors with V2 firmwares preinstalled now.

Hi!

I found a PC with parallel port (and admin rights) and the update was successful! I had to flash it twice but then it worked and the service menu shows V002. :D

Thanks for all the help, without your pictures/guides I could never have done this! Actually I still can't believe that my DIY cable really worked. ;)

I'm from Austria, so if anyone in Central Europe needs the cable, I'd send it for a few €. (shipping charges)

Tried it again today and it worked... who knows why. Probably messed up plugging in the vga cable. :)

Unfortunately, I also get the "can't find device" message. Tried 2 different pc's (xp) and testet several adress settings in bios, no luck. Auto detect in MISP says "error" (also when the adapter is disconnected), it's annoying. Anyone with a suggestion, maybe how to measure or test the adapters functionality or set up the Utility?

Any ideas why? What exactly were your settings in bios and MsIP?

I tried it at my university on some Intel Pentium 4 WinXP computer with native LPT1 and admin rights. I set LPT to SPP and the base address to 378 in the bios, still it couldn't find the device.
The base address in the program was set to "0x378" and "0x0378".
I had those settings and restarted the computer and the program. It saved the settings, so I didn't even have to go to configure. When I clicked on "connect" it just worked fine. Make sure you follow the instructions step by step. Meaning plug in the cable first, then turn on the monitor and wait until it is in standby.
You can test your cable with a multimeter. Do a short curcuit test on direct connections. E.g. collector to collector, ground to ground. And a diode test with the plus(red) cable on the resistors and the black on the collector wire.

Picture of cable attached.

Hi Exair,

yesterday I bought a XL2411Z and I only got a V1-version. So I'm very interested in your self-made cable.

But don't you think that your DIY cable is too senitive to get shipped? I myself dont know much about soldering and stuff, so I can't check the cable if its still working or not :(

How much do you charge for shipping it to Germany?

Regards

Dignitas

Maybe the wiring of the transistors is incorrect. Base to resistor, emitter to ground, collector to the pins? little beasts

When flashing the monitor, and it doesn't make connection -- try power cycling the monitor first.
(turn off the monitor and turn it back on, don't go into service menu mode).

Sometimes that works.

P.S. I'm impressed in the creativity of building your own upgrader kits!

What kind of transistor do you have? There are 2SC trans. which have the collector in the middle ( ECB) and there are C trans. which have the base in the middle (EBC). Apart from that yep, that's it. Did you beep all the connections through? In case it still doesn't work, post a photo maybe.
