On my VG259QM there is still noticeable overshoot in the darkest ufo image at OD120 plus shadow boost 2 at 280Hz. My firmware is MCM105 and other user said that it was working for him at that same firmware so I don't know what am I doing wrong or what.
After my first unit was replaced I got a 2nd one (which is using MCM105).

I just took a quick SmoothFrog test with OD120 at 280hz and Shadow Boost 2.
I don't see any overshoot (actually some minor ghosting).

Here's the result.

I did factory reset and the overshoot is still there and I apologize as I don't have a camera to take a shot from the overshoot, but it is there. I'm just wondering if anybody else has this issue too. Do I need to change some values from the secret menu perhaps?

I don't think that there is much you can do, there is no value that can be changed outside of the 6+1 standard overdrives.

It's panel lottery, maybe with different voltage scaling your panel look similar to mine w/OD120 if you use OD60.

Maybe you can get a replacement from your vendor, if you go into the technical details of the issue you could argue that the panel installed is either defective or not performing how it's supposed to.

Anyone try the 280hz Acer in comparison to this? It has the exact same model number as the 390hz one (XV252Q) but instead of the F digits after it, it starts with Z. But it looks basically the exact same as the 390hz monitor. Curious how it might stack up as I think it’s the only other 280hz monitor I know about.
I bought the Acer 280hz "XV271Z" monitor yesterday so far so good I had to take my laptop to the store to test this monitor myself there is not enough information regarding this monitor.
Here is my first impression keep in mind I'm no expert this is just my experience with this monitor:
1- the uniformity for both black & gray in this monitor is good for an IPS.
2- the 10bit trick that has been mentioned here does work you can get the 10bit working on 1080p@260hz and if you use lower res than 1080p you can get the 10bit working @280hz with no issues
3- the monitor support display scaling and I have to say the scaler is really really good so if you like to play with a custom res you will not be disappointed.
4- the picture quality is good but you will need to play around with the color settings out of the box colors seems a bit yellowish
5-the BFI with some adjustment is good but I don't use it
6- the free sync range is limited to 240 you can raise the limit to 255 using cru

hope this be useful for anyone who wants to buy this monitor & sorry for my bad English

VG279QM dated 2021_03 but firmware MCM101 - is this a problem?

From posts I've read it seems that the "early batch" had MCM103 firmware, and I know of a 2020_12 dated with MCM104.

I'd like to test the performance at 280hz, how can I add 280hz as a custom resolution using CRU to test it?

Hi,

How can I tell what version of firmware I have on my VG259QM ? And where you can download the latest?

Thank you and happy new year!

- turn off monitor
- press power and joystick button at same time to unlock factory menu
- to open factory menu open small blue F tab in OSD

Read first page of this thread before you do anything.

Well I tried pressing and power at same time and I didn't see the factory menu but was able to go into the more information panel and see that I am on the MCM105 firmware. Didn't see the small blue F tab in the OSD.

Anyhow was reading half way through the first page when your reply went through. Not sure I need to set OD120 in factory menu because I rarely go over 80 fps with the connected 5700 XT card but interested in unlocking 10 bit (8bit + FRC) mode.

Thanks

Oh yes I forgot you can check it there too. Firmware cannot be updated on VG25/279QM.

Was able to get into the service menu finally. Turned on OD120 but can't find shadowboost option perhaps because I have HDR turned on. Should I turn that off? And is there any reason to set it at 280mhz if even my gpu will never reach that frequency?

Thanks

Trying to set 10 bit mode but LCD Reduced mode on CRU has been eliminated. CRU recommends trying 'exact reduced'. Will work? Will try.

Couldn't get it to work with a 5700 XT card. I ran CRU 1.5.1 and selected the only resolution in the detailed resolution top box which was 1920x1080 @ 60hz and selected Edit. Then I selected 'Exact Reduced' and hit OK. The ran restart64 and then went into the radeon utility and set the drop down from 8 bit to 10 bit where the screen flashed for a second and then came back still set at 8 bit.

What am I doing wrong?
