Would you consider the Acer Predator XB273 X if you had an AMD card?

I'm looking for the monitor that will help me click heads the best in competitive FPS games.
I know it's going to be a 240 Hz monitor or higher.
IPS / TN is still up in the air.

I've been using TN monitors all my life and I don't mind the colors, I just want the lowest input lag + pixel response and the most clarity. I have my suspicions that a TN panel will be most suited for my needs, but I am more than willing to change my mind if shown facts that say otherwise.

damn man, now you're making me regret ordering the MSI MAG251RX lol....the Acer was on sale too and I passed up on that for this one due to your recommendation earlier, I had a feeling this Acer monitor was gonna be a beast!

I'm not a fan of 27" 1080p, the MSI is still one of the best if not the best 24.5" 1080p

Which method should offer the least input lag or doesn't really matter?

Also what do you guys think of the VG259QM colors for an IPS?..I've been seeing some reviews suggesting its colors are good but aren't that great compared to other IPS monitors so some clarification as to what exactly that means would be nice.

If you can get more than 250fps every single time just set refresh rate to 280hz and cap at 250fps with freesync.
240hz capped at 236 is better IMO if you happen to have your fps dipping as low as 220-230.
Generally I take the 5% lows (not 0.1% and not 1%) and I use it as a baseline to find the correct fps cap, if I set the refresh rate to 280hz capped at 276fps with freesync I tend to find big aim inconsistencies when my fps is at 276 compared to when it dips to 230 and viceversa.

Can you output 250fps 95% of the time? Then cap at 250.

In terms of colors I think it falls behind what the MSI can do (It can still output 10bit if set to 144hz or lower, so it's good to watch h265 content) but it definitely compensate on other aspects like the refresh rate.

For 280hz if you set the overdrive to OD80 it has an extremely low amount of overshoot and a really crisp image, it looks better than the VG279QM with the same settings (If I compare the frog pursuit test https://www.aperturegrille.com/reviews/ASUSVG279QM/)
Tftcentral registered as low as 0.30ms signal processing time, if you add the Response Time Element(which is the same as the Acer) it's just 0.3ms (1/3 of a millisecond) slower than the XV273X.

+Strobe timings for this monitor are 120, 144, 240 and 280.
Forget about strobing with Gsync/Freesync, it doesn't work well on this monitor.
Standard strobing however is a completely different thing, 280hz with strobing is very good, the refresh window at 280hz is 3.57ms and the strobe duration lasts only 1.1ms, which is very fast.
The brightness level is ofc affected but it can still output up to 200 nits which is quite good and the contrast level seems to be unaffected.

I'm attaching a picture of ELMB at 280hz.

You can compare it to the VG279QM's strobed ufotest at 280hz from this review https://www.aperturegrille.com/reviews/ASUSVG279QM/ (scroll down) and you'll see that it's much better on the VG259QM.

If you look at the VG279QM's UFOTEST crosstalk width you can see that it's at least 2x more than the picture I took on the 24.5".

My replacement acer predator xb273 x came today. My previous one was badly tuned(it wasn't tuned at all, it was stuck at the Acer nitro XV273x OD tuning. (acer rep from canada informed me via youtube and had me send it in for a replacement.



This is the one they sent me and, the TUNING is excellent. This predator JUMPS a lot of monitors it should be in the very top. I will use two oscilloscopes for this because my cheaper digital oscilloscope is can't give me consistent rise/fall times.

I will do a double review coming up with the vg259qm and the acer predator xb273x since they arrived relatively close to each other. And how they fare against the beast MSI MAG251rx.

but yes, these THREE(FOUR if you count the vg279qm) are the fastest 240hz(280hz on the asus) IPS monitors.

awesome comparisons! Honestly, you should get a Benq XL2746s or XL2546s to compare the fastest TN vs fastest IPS. Its still unclear how the best TN performs against the best IPS.

Is there a 25inch variant of this model Acer predator xb273x or upcoming? i assume xb253qgx this isnt the 25inch variant of the xb273x?

I just recived my 3rd asus monitor and finally no dead pixels. Nothing else that stands out as annoying either.

I ordered VG279QM i'm interested in input lag on 60 hertz, I will use it with my PC and PS4 Pro. PS4 works only on 60hz, different reviews give different results in 60hz from 27ms to 35ms. mostly i play TEKKEN 7 online on high ranks, and input lag important for me. if i will play TEKKEN 7 on PC with 240-280hz i will get "240-280hz input lag"? cuz TEKKEN 7 locked on 60fps, but panel will be work on 240-280hz and will have 2.3ms? (by measurements from tftcentral)

by measurements from RLCScontender in 60hz best result on XG270 with 214ms vs 278ms on VG279QM, the difference is not a huge as between "60hz input lag vs 240-280hz input lag". which 240Hz monitors have similar input lag results on 60hz as VG279QM on 240-280hz?


and one more question: how often VG279QM has broken pixels and other visual defects as VG279Q (FullHD 144hz)? cuz 3 VG279Q passed through my hands, 2 of them have broken pixels + defect looks like white blur dot, and 1 of them have just broken pixels. u can see this defect on my video

Asus has a reputation of having bad quality control along with acer (although the xb3 models have excellent QC). The monitor smells like paint the moment you open it. There's a good chance there's a dead pixel as well. I bought this monitor "like new" "item will come in original packaging" from amazon warehouse and this is the monstrosity that i got.

Asus ROG Strix XG279Q(1440p 170hz IPS monitor). Can you spot the dead/stuck pixel in the photo below? because I can and i purchased this BRAND NEW


60hz fixed refresh is horrendous dude. How i got that is simple. 17ms mandatory input lag at 60hz PLUS the TOTAL display/processing lag at 60hz. I got 18ms on my oscilloscope based off the data i've extrapolated

17+18=35ms input lag. HORRENDOUS

my acer predator xb273x @60hz fixed refresh(17ms mandatory input lag PLUS 7ms of input lag @60hz=24ms input lag.

now, if this were at 240hz refresh, it's not that big of a deal. However, at 60hz, that 10ms difference is a HUGE deal. The screen refreshes 60 frames per second and that 10ms input delay will show noticeable MUDDY mouse clicks. Blurry mouse icons if you move it quickly and VERY NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE when playing games that REQUIRE low input lag to succeed(fighting games+First person shooters particularly). Thank god the native g-sync 240hz ips predator does'nt have that problem at 60hz. Along with the alienware, MSI, and the vg259qm(thank god the 25" version isn't plagued at 60hz fixed refresh compared to its 27" version)


if I had +10ms more input lag, my TIMING of my projectiles would be OFF and that shiekh player gets in and i lose the game.(shiekh is the 2nd fastest character in smash ultimate behind sonic the hedgehog whereas my zoning character Simon/richter belmont is among the slowest and require PRECISE timing to succeed with this character.)

6/17/2020, the FINAL UFO ghosting test for the acer predator xb273 x. This time, i kept the saturation in check and put it at a better brightness level.

Coming up ULMB at 144hz, 120hz, and 100hz to wrap up my test on this monitor.
