I've published some overclocking mods for the IBM T221 (the first 4k display, released in 2001), produced and sold video adapters for the T221, done some custom work for LVDS adapters, made a board to use an edp 12.85" 2560*1700 lcd with a desktop computer, as well as modifying the panel to be overclocked (tracked down the configuration eeprom, dumped, found, editited, and reflashed what was presented as edid-over-aux)

Recently I've also made boards to create a 240Hz 1080p M270HHF-L10 based display. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP1DEC9N6qY
My favorite post so on the blurbusters page so far is http://www.blurbusters.com/blur-busters ... -giveaway/. Of course it would be! haha. Maybe the second favorite would be my 240Hz mod. From testufo, I've found http://testufo.com/#test=frameskipping&horiz=15&vert=8 to be the most useful since it provides a very easy way to quickly assess frame-dropping. It even works better than rrmt for this purpose, impressive for an online test. Great job on this!
What would I do with gsync? I've got a lot to try. Not only will I extensively test it with games (who wouldn't haha), I'd try some real work on it too! I've done some work on just-in-time rendering (pictures here: https://picasaweb.google.com/1129081983 ... p2Q29vEhgE) which would be very interesting to try in conjunction with gsync (mainly for purposes of implementing a soft power-cap with dynamic clocking). I will also attempt to attach it to some other displays, and of course, I'll find a way to overclock the gsync module (I strongly suspect that it sets it's own modes from the same external configuration that it sources the edid-over-aux information from, so there could be fun opportunities there, considering that I have a spare 4k 4ch lvds panel laying around...

In college, I once took apart an LCD monitor to use the LCD screen with one of those old style overhead projectors to make a functional video projector for my dorm room! It was a LOT of fun, made a really awesome "toy" for my time in college, and was the first of many experiences tearing monitors apart successfully. I also work for Amazon Fulfillment as a Sr. Tech in a warehouse and I'm responsible for fixing and frugally maintaining a variety of computers and other hardware here which often involves the GLORIOUS (I'm serious, I love it!) task of taking much of the equipment apart piece by piece for repair. I have a gaming rig at home that I built myself, upgrading it over time. Earlier this year it got a full mobo/proc/ram replacement, and last week I upgraded the parts that make it REALLY shine for gaming right now: my ASUS VG248QE and my Superclocked 780 ti. Despite this awesome setup, I am still getting screen tearing at times in Battlefield 4, currently my favorite game, so I am INCREDIBLY excited about these gsync kits (If I do not win one, I will be trying to purchase ASAP when available.)
The most useful page on the site for me was http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/120hz-monitors/ when I was in the market for a 144hz monitor. Despite just now signing up, I have lurked for a while and that page sealed the deal for me in deciding which monitor to get (specifically for the gsync upgrade, actually!) and it would be completely awesome for that to come full circle and allow me to get the upgrade through this site. http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/ was immediately helpful afterwards for helping me get Lightboost configured properly on the monitor!
Another bonus is that I promise to document the process with detailed pictures and text to help others do the same. I frequently make documentation just like this at my job and have a lot of experience in making directions clear, concise, and easy to follow.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I am so excited right now just THINKING about the chance to tinker and install this thing that it's ridiculous.
Oh my, thank you SO MUCH! I literally just yelled "WHOO-HAA!!" in my house and scared my animals! This will be an awesome project to tackle after being snowed in for the past few days. I am incredibly honored.Chief Blur Buster wrote:Winner #2 -- zachska87
This was a unamious agreement, including all moderators (me and spacediver).
Winner #3, 4, 5 and consolation prizes coming shortly.
I thought this was clear in the first and second posts (second post of this thread, I predicted we'd have a hard time deciding) -- we've been running this the same way PcPer and a few other sites did. As posted, NVIDIA rules creates a necessary human decision about who's most qualified... So all the sites that ran the G-SYNC giveaway handpicked many of the winners based on this too. But keep tuned!Guy wrote:Wow if I knew you guys were going to hand pick the winners I would have put more effort into my post.
I actually did quite a bit of research about making a projector out of an LCD screen about 7 years ago but in the end decided on buying a new projector to get better image quality. Now I wish I'd gone the other way!TheExodu5 wrote:Congrats to the winners so far. Cirthix's post really caught my eye, I knew he'd take it. I wish I was that industrious.
And wow...never thought you could make a projector out of an LCD screen. Impressive.
