Hi thanks for answering this question. I am also in the same boat.
I have the 27Q1RX 360hz OLED, but I have been contemplating switching to the 540hz Zowie in my belief it will offer me a more competitive edge in PUBG.
What about the newly released 480Hz 27" ASUS Oled?
Should I get that, would it be even better than the Zowie 540Hz on a competitive aspect?
It will not offer you a competitive advantage, rather a disadvantage.
The sub 1ms G2G response times, higher PPI and substantially better contrast on OLED clears any LCD on the market.
If looking for sample & hold clarity, OLED is the way forward.
TN's (in particular, XL2566K & AUO E-TN's) struggle past 300hz. IPS and VA struggle past 200hz even.
If you're adamant on upgrading, consider the PG27AQDP instead of 540hz LCD's.
Keep in mind that 480hz's full potential can be achieved only when running 480fps @ 480hz (best smoothness, best clarity, lowest latency)
Don't let this deter you from getting a OLED though.
You can also make a CRU/NVCP resolution with no-scaling applied to make the image physically smaller - emulating a 24.5" display
For example: 2340x1316 @ 360hz or 480hz (should be ~24.5")
However, I'd stick to your current monitor and upgrade once DP2.1 GPU's and monitors which have a the newer port arrive, to avoid DSC alt-tab bug that's plaguing current generation of monitors & general DSC downsides that come with compression technologies.
DP2.1 will allow for a theoretical resolution (without DSC) of
25601440p @ 840hz @ 8bit
2560x1440 @ 670hz @ 10bit
360hz to 480hz upgrade might not be noticable
in games for many, especially with the higher fps demand.
On desktop, it should be pretty apparent.
