Wouldn't it be more beneficial to move on from 1080p and focus on both 1440p and 4K high refresh rate monitors?

I was looking at the pixel count of 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolution monitors and noticed that the jump from 1080p to 1440p isn't as demanding as the jump from 1440p to 4K. So, why monitor/panel manufacturers don't just focus their R&D budget on achieving the highest refresh rate possible on 1440p and 4K instead of spreading themselves too thin across 3 resolutions where two of them are somewhat similar.

Because there's still a market for 1080p I suppose, but also eSports struggling to move past 24.5" + 1080p.

I pick 1080p because that is where the monitors with the least input lag and highest refresh rate reside. If there were 540 Hz 1440p panels like the recently announced 1080p panel, then I would consider 1440p. Also, in many cases (such as in Call of Duty) there is a GPU bottleneck at 1440p, even on an RTX 4090, and essentially none at 1080p.
