Hi all ,

First time poster here, long time lurker/reader. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to monitor technology, but know enough to trust a monitor that is blur busters approved. I bought an XG2431 less than a year ago and I was loving it, but ended up having to RMA it due to some weird lines/artifacting I can barely explain in words (confirmed it was in fact the monitor).

I sent it in over a month ago to Viewsonic to their RMA warehouse. Fast forward to today, I got an email in which they claimed that they do not have the panel available to repair my unit, but are instead offering me an XG250 as an "upgrade" I read a bit about the XG250, and it seems that it can technically overclock to a higher refresh rate (280hz), which I would most likely not end up doing anyway (in my experience this usually compromises image quality & ended up looking worse overall), but it doesn't support backlight strobing or any sort of ULMB technology to my knowledge. I was wondering if you guys could provide a bit of insight on what you would do. In the meantime I bought another XG2431 to use so I don't necessarily have an immediate need for the monitor, I just want what's best for the long term.

TLDR: should I accept the XG250 as an upgrade? is it infact an upgrade? or wait for my XG2431 to be repaired?

The XG250 is not a Blur Busters Approved model, and is not tunable by Strobe Utility.

I don't think that the XG250 is an upgrade over the XG2431, I wouldn't even consider it a sidegrade, it's arguably a downgrade.

I don't know about warranty laws in your country but if I was you I'd tell Viewsonic to directly replace your unit with a brand new XG2431 if they are not capable of finding replacement parts for the product, you shouldn't be forced to wait because they have no replacement part availability.

It averages out to a sidegrade.

Some lineitems are a upgrade, and some lineitems are a downgrade.

If you don't use strobing, it is a minor upgrade.
But if you use strobing and like XG2431's flexibility, it is a downgrade.

I can't specify whether to accept it or not, but if strobing is your priority, then maybe politely ask for a replacement XG2431 if the repair is taking too long. The XG2431 is a very popular model at ViewSonic now, and often goes out of stock.

I might have the same issue on my XG2431, is this what you saw?

I tried to characterize exactly what caused it, but I had a hard time. I can cause this to happen by changing the refresh rate to 60 Hz or switching Freesync off.

And ever since the first time this happened, I have seen very faint and uniform horizontal lines across the entire monitor, at the same spacing as the lines in the video. They are visible all of the time, no matter if I see the more extreme artifacting in my video. It looks similar to gradient banding, but it is visible even on a solid color.

I've tried using the OSD option to reset all settings, and also running CRU's reset-all.exe. Neither helped.

I've had my XG2431 for maybe 2 years. Are you in the US? I hope not, I would like to hear I can get a replacement .
