Thinking about canceling my Asus PG27AQDM order after RTINGS review

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

Thinking about canceling my Asus PG27AQDM order after RTINGS review

Post by Kaled » 06 Jul 2023, 14:38

As you may know some people had issues with their PG27AQDM, the issues include image corruption, HDR performance issues, or the inability to update the monitor's firmware, there is a reddit thread with links to some of the issues shared.

Non of these issue deterred me from ordering one because if I couldn't update the monitor or faced some image corruption issues especially in the first month I'll just return it through Amazon and I think the monitor is the best for my needs (motion handling at 60 FPS) and worth taking some risks.

My biggest concern stems from the recent RTINGS review that shows abnormally high input lag results, a reddit user also shared a translated review of the PG27AQDM here that also shows abnormally high input lag results.

How could a blep like me know for sure that his $1K monitor doesn't suffer from the same issue without the use of LDAT or something? All the other issues that I could face such as lower brightness or image corruption I could easily assess myself and see if I could live with or return the monitor, the abnormally high input lag though is something I can't assess myself with accuracy.

I care about reducing input lag throughout my system and I'm seriously considering canceling my order for this reason, do you guys have any advice for me and others in the same boat? Is there anything we could do to know for sure that what we will get isn't a lemon?

Hmm, odd, RTINGS results conflict heavily with TFTCentral's review (granted, a couple months back) for this model, which shows almost no display processing latency (that, remember, is additive to any peripheral and system-side latency):

Possibly a firmware issue, as you mentioned.

Also, not sure if you're aware, but unlike LCD models with G-SYNC modules, OLED VRR is prone to near-black flicker due to specific panel characteristics:

Yep, also Monitors Unboxed and pcmonitors.info reviews were very positive, once I saw RTINGS' review and other sites having a similar issue with the input lag I started to question the amount of risks I'm taking going with this generation of OLED monitors over the trusty Asus PG27AQN :?

Thanks for the heads up, I have seen PC Monitors video review talk about this and I don't think it will be an issue I will be facing, most of the games I play I either comfortably hit my 237 FPS cap in or they are themselves locked to 60 FPS (fighting games). I could easily test this too once I get the monitor and see if it's a big issue worth returning this monitor over, unlike that input lag issue.
