Title. So, I have a Viewsonic XG2431. I had it connected to my MacBook Pro M1 Pro and set to 240hz. I didn’t really notice any difference at all from the laptop’s ProMotion 120hz display (which is really just a tad bit smoother 60hz as it’s still about as blurry as any other normal laptop). My conclusion was that it was just displaying the ProMotion display refresh rate but updating it quicker, therefore not being true 240hz, just a lower lag ProMotion.

So now I bought a basic gaming PC. i5 9600K + RX 6600. Connected it to my monitor via DP to the GPU and set it to 240hz. The monitor OSD shows it’s set to 240hz as well. TestUFO also detects 240hz.

And yet, it’s still all blurry? Don’t get me wrong when I set it back to 60hz I can see the way the mouse drags is laggier but it’s such a small difference, literally feels like ProMotion. Like something merely aesthetic. Went into a game where I was getting 500-600 fps and I don’t even have to move fast to see how it’s still all blurry? It feels like 10% faster maybe, like a subconscious, placebo thing rather than in-your-face obvious like most people say the jump from 60hz to 144hz is (let alone 240hz).

If I try really hard to focus on the TestUFO 240hz ships I can see they’re not blurry like the 60hz strip but man it just doesn’t make a noticeable difference. I feel scammed.

What’s wrong with my eyes?

You gotta be really trained to spot the differences, or it just depends on how sensitive to latency differences you are.

Use it for a while on the max refresh rate and then switch back, and you should 100% notice the differences.

If it works like intended on the MacBook... Don't think I have heard of people trying this before.

That’s really sad lol. So my eyes just don’t function properly? Also damn what a solution, if 240hz doesn’t do it for me then it’s basically a lost cause… no point in burning more money in a higher refresh monitor.

I’m not using the MacBook anymore, I’m on a Windows gaming PC. It is set to 240hz both in the display settings as well as the GPU ones. I don’t understand why you’d have to be trained to spot the differences, literally all I’ve heard all along is how life changing and in your face obvious the difference is. And yet, I feel like I just threw my money straight in the bin.

You haven't. You're just lesser sensitive to these changes than others but like I said, overtime you'll notice or tell or get used to it and don't wanna go back. That's what I meant by "being trained", its not a waste its just not always seen by first glance.

Just ensure you're in the set proper refresh rate modes and stuff.
