S/FTP ethernet cable and interference

If anyone is using s/ftp ethernet cable hoping to fix interference, you are most likely achieving the opposite.
I found my cable was creating lag randomly when I was trying a different cable and left PC unplugged from ethernet for around 10-15mins.
I spoke with a guy that used to install cables and stuff and he told me that s/ftp cables are not meant for indoors as they need to be high quality and also be grounded in order to do their job.
If they are not installed correctly and are not high quality, they end up acting as antennas and creating interference instead of blocking any.

So what you need to do is try to get a UTP cat6 24AWG.(no s/ftp!) If possible get a good brand one that is pure copper.
I bought a PANDUIT one for both PC's and for my modem/router connection.
Personally it has helped me and the lag is minimal for the past 3 days.

Hi widow13,
Does "the lag is minimal" mean desync fix or the mouse feel better?

Desync fix mostly but the mouse feels more responsive from that matter too because the input lag is less.
So I'd say a bit of both just more desync wise.

It may not be useful to me. Generally speaking, before buying SFTP network cables, everyone uses UTP network cables. do u?

Not quite sure, not everyone sells standard UTP cables. We used to just buy a random ethernet cable.
And most importantly if I had a UTP it for sure wasn't a good quality one.

Where did you get this information from?
I also have a Cat 8.1 S/FTP Ethernet Cable, so you might consider me to switch it up. Why would they sell those as indoors ethernet cables, if they are do more harm than good?

That I do not exactly know, I spoke with a cable installation professional and he told me so.
My double conversion UPS arrived today, will see what different it makes and update.

Okay thank you. Did he say it has to be Cat 6 UTP or could also do an U-FTP Cat 7 get the Job done? Which exactly Shielding is to avoid, since Cat 8 mostly uses S/FTP.

He advised me on getting a standard 24AWG UTP(not ftp/sftp) cat 5/6/7/8 does not matter and if able a pure copper one.

Hi Widow13,

Your testimony is very very interesting, thanks a lot for the share. What if the technician you spoke with was right?

For a few days I have been testing a Category 5 UTP cable on a fiber connection (with the only change in the connection parameters on Windows the transmission and reception buffer) and the game is totally different, the most notable is the hitreg, it's very perfect hitreg

Usually input lag returns very quickly on average 1 day after a major change in the configuration.

To watch, provided it lasts.
