input lag and floaty mouse fix that is working for me

Post by zezozn » 23 Jun 2024, 04:56

Hi guys,

I have been trying to fix my input lag for a long time, and my hypothesis was that there is something wrong with my scaling because it was affecting all aspects of my PC, not just Valorant but also League and God of War, any offline or online game, and also my viewing experience on Twitch and YouTube.

I tried all the possible solutions that could be provided on this forum. I even bought a new PC and had an electrician visit my home to inspect, and we found nothing. While I was surfing the internet for a solution, I came across this video talking about Windows scaling by LinusTech watch?v=NF210WeR9C8&t=332s.

Then I thought to myself that maybe the scaling on my monitor (ViewSonic VX2428) is not right. For some reason, I always felt that the angles and FOV in Valorant are different and seem smaller than usual, and my game felt very different every time I changed the scaling options in NVIDIA Control Panel. Also, if I changed the in-game display from letterbox to fill, it had a different feel, but none gave the right feel for the game, and I still had my input delay problem.

Then I started to set a custom scale for my monitor. I started adding small percentages to my original scaling, which was 100%. I started with 101%, which was a bit blurry and didn't fix the problem, but I felt an enhancement in my game and mouse feel until I kept adding until I reached the value of 120%, which gave me a very crisp image for my desktop, and the taskbar was clean and crisp.

Then I hopped on a deathmatch, and everything was so smooth, and the angles were the right size and i could react to people and my movements were smooth. I then tried on a couple of different offline games like God of War and Ghost of Tsushima. My testing here was to parry the enemy as it was incredibly hard before and very unresponsive. Now, I was able to do that, and everything feels smooth again.

Bottom line is I tested on my side, and I want to share this solution with you guys. Maybe it may help you, and I'm really looking forward to your feedback on the matter and for you to test it for yourselves.

To change the scaling:

Right-click on your desktop and choose display options.
Choose scale and then custom scale.
Enter the value 120, then sign out and sign in again.
I hope this solves your problem as it did for me.

I can confirm this brings a positive difference, thanks for sharing. 120% scaling does the trick.

I switched back to 100%. The thing that made the difference for me was the Win8DpiScaling reg key.

tried this on overwatch last night and definitely feel more comfortable. Its either a placebo or positive difference.
29/3 kd as cass
28/4 as hanzo
13/8 as cass another game but they have a pharah/76 with mercy and cant finished up kills as much as id like to.

Will give this more time for other games and ranked to see if it is actually placebo or not.
Also i had hyotes win8dpiscaling setting before i tried the fix. When i switched back it feels literally the same as before. Could be just my pc tho.

I can't believe it, this is incredible It's the biggest fix I've seen in years. The difference in gameplay is brutal; the games feel smooth, and the hit registration is a thousand times better. This was the reason why games looked better on my TV than on my PC, because my PC was setting the TV to 125% scaling. Make a statue for this man; what he just discovered is on another level

You can google it or search the registry for the key but here it is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
New DWORD 32-bit: LogPixels, decimal 115 for 120% scaling.
Win8DpiScaling is already there but it's set to 0 by default.
