Update this monitor is glossy but only semi glossy it doesn't have the really nice gloss you find in LG TV

I've seen that review, and it actually said the opposite. Namely that's it's NOT a glossy finish slapped on top of a matte base:


A matte screen looks more obvious:


If you were looking at these two shots without any context, you would have a hard time calling the first one "matte."

However, you are right in that it's not "glossy," in the sense that most people would describe it as "semi-glossy" instead. The PC Monitors review also mentioned that there is some graininess in bright colors, but not as bad as with matte displays. So it appears to be somewhere halfway between matte and glossy:

I ordered this monitor so I guess I'll see for myself. But yeah, I think Asus should have called it semi glossy.

Disclaimer: I actually have a slight preference for more matte screens. I just don't want them to be extremely matte. So checking this one out should be interesting.

Ok but I still returned it, I don't want these nasty semi gloss I want a real gloss like what you find in LG TVs
I especially dislike Asus calling it Glossy while LYING and comparing it to "semi gloss" QD-OLED
First of all while QD-OLED aren't real glossy like LG TVs, they are definitely way more glossy than the Scam ASUS is selling and calling "glossy" You can even call the QD-OLED glossy because it's so close even tho they aren't.

Until someone can make a REAL glossy gaming monitor and stop LYING to fool consumers I will have no choice but to stick with my LG C3 OLED as my oversized desktop monitor.

ASUS probably didn't want to pay for the special glossy coating that LG uses on their TVs so they slapped on something cheap, but against white backgrounds it is grainy and hazy with that special nasty matte sparkle almost like if they slapped on a glossy coating over a matte.

not a single monitor on the market use a completely glossy screen, not the new QD-oled, neither the Dough monitor. The XG27AQDMG uses a semiglossy and is not on top of a matte coating, there's a lot of pixel macro photos from that monitor as they posted here and not a single one could make one think that.

As for the glossy treatment TV's but on monitors, I don't think they will ever come as monitors are usually not under the same conditions of lightning as TV's and they would probably have a tough time selling them with a shitload of returned units because the reflections.

All I can say after spending a week with this monitor is that it looks good to me. No haloing around bright details, and very little graining (I have to look very close to see any, and it's barely there even then.) Colors come through the coating quite a bit cleaner compared to my older semi-glossy monitor, and much, much, much cleaner compared to my matte one.

It might not be 100% perfect mirror-like gloss, but it's much closer to glossy than it is to matte. Somewhere between 80% and 90%, I'd say.

According to Rtings the glossy coating in the LG OLED TV actually handles reflection better than the one found in this glossy monitor.
My C3 absorbs those reflections like a champ, makes it muted and dark purple like it's disappearing into some sort of OLED Black hole.

THis ASUS the reflections were clearly BRIGHTER and in fact you could see it in the Rtings photos for reflection handling.
There is something else going on here with this monitor I can clearly see it is no match for a 100% glossy OLED TV coating.
Maybe it comes down to cost, the LG OLED TV coating is probably extremely expensive.

Even if I am wrong about them slapping glossy over matte, a quick look at macro sub pixel shots of this monitor shows that there is a halo around the sub pixels and a slight bit of matte effect look at the distortion around the pixels the same kind of distortion you find in matte coating, look at the LG TV OLED sub pixels they are picture perfect.
This translates into real life usage

Asus calling this "Glossy" is an outright LIE, it may not be matte as I originally though but it's clearly Semi Gloss and nothing remotely close to gloss as they are claiming.

What you're seeing there are the lenses of MLA+. They look like very fine grain. It becomes more obvious when using a microscope with 900x magnification:

There's LG TVs that have it too. The new G3 and G4 models do, I believe, while the current "C" models do not.
